Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

I just thought maybe an individual poll would be more helpful

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

Le Poulailler de Poussin! (Simontarded.)

Ron Paul for President 2012!

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

If my heart talks, I say Gasquet! .. If my reason talks it's Djokovic and ... Gasquet
Why? Because they can already hit winners all over the court, and can improve a lot in the physical and mental department...

Though, I have to say that I've never seen Del Potro play, I've just heard he has huge potential.

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

I actually think Gasquet does not belong in that group, just like Nadal has left it 7 months ago. He's already achieved so much more than the others, it's not fair to compare them.

I think Verdaso's pretty much showed us what he's got. The question is - will it work? I don't think he's going to achieve half as much as Gasquet.

Baghdatis... Well, he's so talented, it just hurts to see him getting injured every 3 months. I really hope he'll do well, I really do.

Berdych looks like a really good prospect - I'm willing to wait and see what he'll have to offer in a couple of years.

I'll be stunned if Monfils won't be seriously injured in a matter of two-three years, plus he doesn't really bring anything speciel to the court. Nothing that will win him huge titles against the best players, anyways.

Murray's pretty much a Nalbandian in terms of his game-plan. I was there at his breakthrough match, that doubles match against Israel in DC, and was impressed. Still, he's not my pick to win Slams among these guys.

I haven't seen the others play yet.

My pick is Gasquet, but since I think it's not fair to compare him to the others, I pick Baghdatis. It might take years, but it looks inevitable that he'll win a Slam some day. Too much talent.

Tennis, Ergo Sum.

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

Potential -> Verdasco, Djokovic, Gasquet, Berdych are in a different level imo. Hard to pick one for me, if I try to imagine all at their best, I think I´d stick to Verdasco.

Who will achieve more -> Gasquet (though I honestly expect Djokovic to burn ATP tour some day, too soon to say, however), and Verdasco will probably be the less succesful (though I haven´t lost the faith yet )

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

I have to say that I think that Gasquet has the most potential I have said it befor and I will say it again he has the ability to create thing that no many people except Federer and some of the all time greats like Borg. He also has the ability to create such magic on the courts. I think that a great doubles paring would be Gasquet and Federer.

I'm not afraid of anyone, but sometimes I'm afraid of myself.
-Justine Henin-Hardenne-

Life it's a great game.
-Andre Agassi-

He was too good. I would suggest to his next opponent that he doesn't look to me for advice.

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

I think this is one of that kind of philosophical threads, because the word potential means almost an utopian level . If players like Acasuso, Verdasco , Almagro , Gonzalez etc etc and all the hard-hitters used their best potential surely they would be among the best ATP players , an if Safin used all his potential he would be fighting with Federer trying to get the first position..

I don't like this kind of threads . In any case i could give my opinion about who will be the best player among those youngsters , but to talk about potential is to talk about utopias

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

Verdasco a youngster? The guy is 22 in a month and that's not really a youngster's age in tennis, is it? Nadal, Ancic, etc are younger than him. He is certainly not from the generation of the rest in the poll.

For me potential is something that means how good the players may be at the top of their games in a few years. So I look at players who have big weapons most of all and not solid all-round games with a good mentality (like Djokovic, Murray).

I'd say Monfils and Gasquet.

Gasquet because he has already proved himself on the tour. Also I think, like Nadal he is a workaholic and very humble. last year i saw him in stuttgart, going from one court to another to practice either with his coach or any senior player he could lay his hands on. I liked his statement this year before beating federer that he didn't get to practice with him, or some such thing.

maybe i'm talking with my heart not head but how bout seppi, i think he is extremely talented he just needs to get more aggressive, when he steps up and attacks more like he did against Ferrero in the Davis Cup he really looks like he has the goods

FORZA Davide Sanguinetti, Fillipo Volandri, Potito Starace, Daniele Bracciali, Andreas Seppi, Alessio Di Mauro, Giorgio Galimberti, Francesco Aldi, Federico Luzzi, Simone Bolleli, Fabio Fognini

I am a Seppi fan, but you are talking with the heart. It's better for him with not to have any hype, and so far he isn't in the main group listed. If all goes well he can have a solid career, don't see Slams for him, though I'd love to be wrong.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Which individual youngster has the most potential and why?

Wow, I started a thread like this a few weeks ago and got my head chewed off by certain hypocrites on the board for "recycling" topics and told I'm an idiot & should utilize the search feature.

How amusing.

Anyway, Monfils has the most potential; however, Gasquet is the most likely to succeed based on his success thus far. Wasted potential is a terrible thing, but Monfils though quite physically mature, may never fully mature mentally. That is my biggest fear, but he plays a nice game of power tennis. I'd like to see him offer a little bit more variety, but based on talent, size and endurance Monfils definitely has the "most potential"

Gasquet is probably the most talented, but at this point his endurance and body are not quite up to par. It could cost him in the long run, especially against a guy like Nalbandian. We all know how terrible a grinder can make a finesse player, that enjoys making pretty shots look in a best of 5 set match. Ginepri bageled him in the 5th in NYC, after Gasquet made a couple of shots that looked as if he belonged in the same league as Roger.

I did the original one sweetie and it's on this page and it wasn't me who chewed you out. You have shown other qualities to suggest that you are hilariously biased.
