Asked if he expected big things from Murray in the future, Federer said: "Absolutely. That was a very tough final today.
"I also lost my first final when I made it to the tour (against fellow Swiss Marc Rosset in Marseille in 2000). I lost 7-6 in the third set so that was also very hard.
"This will definitely be a good experience for Andy. He'll become a good player, I'm sure of that, and I wish him all the best."
Now if anyone complains that Roger used "good" instead of "great" I'll smack 'em.
