Knoxville CH; Willis eats up Tennys Sandgren 6-7,6-4,6-2

Never in doubt that fitter player would win once it went to 3rd set.

Too funny.

Took an injury timeout to have back wrapped just so TV audience would have pleasure of seeing his abs.

The snickers bar was the icing on the cake, yep.

Sangren was laughing at the start of the match thinking there was no chance he could lose, enjoying Willis' clowning around in between points.

End of 2nd set he was saying "how can you lose to this guy?".

3rd set after going down an early break he was so mentally destroyed that he (bizarrely given Willis' fitness) started tanking.

Willis is certainly compelling viewing anyway, would be nice if he came back in shape in 2015, his game has potential to drive so many modern players insane.

He can't be in so very bad shape now, he can certainly shift around the court. I only saw the third set, but it was very funny - he was frustrating the hell out of Tennys, who must have been wishing his mother had called him something else. Anything else!

Willis has a wicked wicked lefty serve out wide which he hits about 80% of the time, then throws in an ace down the middle whenever he really needs one. He closes in behind the serve really well and amazingly close for such a larger specimen and has great touch at the net. At this level he seems virtually unbreakable, I think that's why Sandgren threw in the towel after that break 1st game of the 3rd. I think Willis could be more effective at creating break opportunities if he'd chip and charge a lot more since he can't really compete very well off the ground. I don't see him as serious ATP level without a bit more improvement, but damn fun player to watch. Between the service game and all the slices & drop shots he gives less rhythm than Karlovic.
