Hrbaty the Giant Killer

I would rate Dominik "The Dominator" Hrbaty as one of the biggest giant-killers currently in the game. He has defeated all the greatest players of his time, often at the peak of their powers, with winning records against a lot of them. These include a win over a streaking Federer last year and a win over
newly crowned US Open Champ Roddick in 2003. However, he has never managed to crack the top 10, replicate his 1999 French Open Semi or win a Tennis Masters Shield.

Roger Federer: 2004 Cincinnati AMS, Hard, R64 Ohio, USA Hard R64 Hrbaty 1- 6 7-6 6-4

Andy Roddick: 2003 SVK v. USA WG PO, Clay, RR Bratislava, Slovak Clay RR Hrbaty 3-6 6-3 6-4 6-4

Marat Safin: 2005 ATP Masters Series Miami, Hard, R32
FL, U.S.A. Hard R32 Hrbaty 7-6 6-1

Juan Carlos Ferrero: 2005 ATP Masters Series Canada, Hard, R16
Montreal, Canada Hard R16 Hrbaty 6-4 6-2

Carlos Moya: 2000 Stuttgart Indoor, Hard, R64
Germany Hard R64 Hrbaty 6-3 3-6 6-2

Andre Agassi: 2000 Rome, Clay, R16
Italy Clay R16 Hrbaty 6-4 6-4

Gustavo Kuerten: Auckland, Hard, S
New Zealand Hard S Hrbaty 6-3 6-2

Yevgeny Kafelnikov: 2002 St. Petersburg, Hard, R16
Russia Hard R16 Hrbaty 7-6 7-5

Pete Sampras: 2000 World Team Cup, Clay, RR
Dusseldorf, Germany Clay RR Hrbaty 0-6 6-4 6-4

Marcelo Rios: 2001 CHI v SVK WGPO, Carpet, RR
Presov Carpet RR Hrbaty 2-6 4-6 6-2 6-4 6-2

These are his most recent wins against the number 1 players from the last couple of years. The only number 1s he has not managed to defeat are the Australians, Rafter and Hewitt. He has lost once to both players. Overall he has a very impressive winning percentage against world number ones considering his over-all rank.

Federer didn't play seriously against Hrbaty in Cincinnati TMS 2004!

Excluding those who've never played Federer, he's the only top player who has never lost to Federer. Just wish he'll be more consistent, especially in Slams. His loss to Hewitt in the USO was simply disappointing.

Yeah consistency has been his main problem. He can play like top 5 one day and sub-100 the next. About the Hewitt loss, I think his game just doesnt match up well with Hewitt. He's lost badly to him before in Hopman Cup and it seems he hasnt figured out the right strategy to play Hewitt yet.
