Anyone know the answer to this...

I know that the entry ranking determine if the player qualify for different level tournaments. I was wondering if anyone know if there are restriction for highly ranked players to enter challenger level tournaments or below(eg. futures)

eg. Can a player ranked top 10 in ATP's singles entry ranking play a challenger event?

If u know the ATP rules/regulations regarding the above questions, I really appreciate if you can post the answer.Thankz

They must be allowed because there have been top 10 and 20 players playing Challengers before.

Re: Anyone know the answer to this...

Only one player in the top 10 can enter a challenger tournament and can only do so by receiving a wild-card. Plus, it's mandatory that the challenger doesn't take place in the first week of a Grand Slam or in the week of a Masters Series. I think this last rule is also available for Top 50 players.

Re: Anyone know the answer to this...

The top 10 aren't allowed to play challengers at all.

Depending on the challenger players inside the top 50 but not inside the top 10 can accept a Wild Card into a challenger depending on the prize money of the event and whether there is an ATP event on in that week or the 2nd week of a Slam, depending on whether the supervisor agrees to it.

Unlike the main tour events, the Challengers only have to their lists out 3 weeks before the event unlike the 6 weeks for the ATP main events.

If it's in the same week as an ATP event then they can award 2 Wildcards.
If it's not in the same week as an ATP event or second week of a Slam they can give 4 wildcards to these players.

Ljubicic played the Zagreb Challenger this year and was ranked within the top 20.
Hrbaty has played Challengers in Bratislava and a few others as well, but they can't committ to them.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Beaten to it by 1 minute.

Hate it when that happens.

Naturally, GWH's answer was more precise than mine.
