Well, Puerta has a couple of clay court tournies coming up with no points to defend. I forgot Safin, I'd probably put him around 9 like you did because he will probably lose his TMS Points and most of his TMC points.

Re: Predict year end ranks.

Yes mate, don't get me wrong I think Puerta is a spectacular player to watch on clay but I think he has to qualify for the Master's Cup in order to have an genuine shot at the top 8. One good think about the Champion's Race is that it is good for making lists like that, cos you don't have to calculate how many points a player earned last year and how many points to take off etc.

I'm expecting Ginepri and Blake to make huge climbs in the next couple of months, and Kiefer has the perfect game for indoor and carpet that have led him to do well in the past, as well as being hugely talented. The Frog seems to be taking a tumble on both of our ranking lists. On mine its simply cos I think a lot of the players who will move up will push him down. But then again if he plays a lot and uses his consistancy to move through open draws then he could even reach the cusp of the top ten. He and Davydenko have moved almost invisibly up the ranking list. I have put Coria ahead of Davydenko as I think he has a better chance of winning on hardcourts, and is a far better class of player than the Russian.

I was shoked by Davyenko's rise this year dude, he's got a solid game that translates well to every surface, just deathly boring to watch.

Re: Predict year end ranks.

I saw the whole of Davydenko's 5 set loss to Lee Childs (then ranked in the 300s) in the first round of Wimbledon 2003 after being 2-1 up. Davydenko was a seeded player, I think ranked 33, and while you can't judge a player on one match, there was nothing about this game that suggested top 10 to me.

Noone on this forum really talks about Davydenko. Monfils, Murray, Djokovic and even Don Young get more attention than this man who has been a top 7 fixture since Paris: it probably is that "boredom" factor.

The lad must have obviously played his socks off to beat Canas and Henman in straight sets in Melbourne, and his win over Coria in Paris completely shocked me, especially considering the way Coria humiliated him in the first round of the same tournament last year. And a 44 - 23 record this year with 6 semi finals and a title in St Poelton suggests otherwise.

I agree. No offense to others but I hope he does not make it to the elite top eight for the tennis master cup because I want someone more exciting to get his spot so it would be more worth watching. He lacks personality. Well that's just my opinion.

He didn't play his socks off against Henman, as he didn't really need to.

It is not a problem of personnality. it's a problem of percentage tennis...

Re: Predict year end ranks.

I don't see how people here can think Safin will drop out of the top 10. Puerta would have to have an unusually good indoor season and so would Gasquet or Nalbandian, who are about 100pts behind him in the 2005 race. Marat isn't going to be injured for the whole of the rest of the year, he only needs some semi-decent performances in Madrid and Paris to stay in the top 10.

As for Davydenko, I've seen him play many times this year on all surfaces and the guy has every shot. I've seen him hit forehand winners, backhand winners and service winners. His movement and defensive play is top notch too. He totally deserves to be in the top 8 and, had it not been for injury and fitness problems, he'd probably be ranked even higher than 7. The only surprise is why he's been ranked so low before this year. It's very unusual for a player to make his big rise up the rankings at the age of 24.

Re: Predict year end ranks.

i would love to see richie qualify for the masters!
and the best is that he really can, especially considering he has nearly not any points to defend comparing to the players who are just ahead of him
