Agassi hinting at retirement?

Agassi explicitly thanked the croud for 20 years of support at the US Open, could that mean he's thinking of not playing next year?

After watching him play over the last two weeks I hate to see him go, but you have to admit he's not as fit as he used to be.

Re: Agassi hinting at retirement?

I think it will all depend on how bad his back is. I hope he is not going yet. He has shown that it takes #1 player to stop him in a major tournament. Hopefully he gives Australia another try.

I think 2006 is the "farewell year". He has to play Wimbledon one more time cause he can't voluntarily miss 3 in a row.

Re: Agassi hinting at retirement?

I have a sneaky feeling that if this isn't it for him, next year will definitely be goodbye. But, I did get a feeling of finality when he thanked NY for 20 years.

Agassi won't return to NY in 2006. He said it clear.

I think he will retire after the Australian Open next year.

Why don't we all stop guessing about it and just wait until it happens?

Agassi says he has no plans to retire

NEW YORK, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Andre Agassi has no plans to retire from tennis after pushing Roger Federer hard before losing 6-3 2-6 7-6 6-1 in the U.S. Open final on Sunday.

The 35-year-old has fielded numerous questions this year about his plans and eyebrows were raised when he thanked the crowd for their support over his 20 consecutive years at the U.S. Open.

But at a news conference, he said he would continue to play.

"My intention is to keep working and keep doing what I am doing," Agassi said. "The only thing better than the last 20 years (at the U.S. Open) will be 21."

Agassi has won eight grand slam titles and is one of only five men to have won all four grand slam events.

Re: Agassi hinting at retirement?

The draw wasn't overtly lucky. The Birdman in Round 3 would be a test for anyone. The lucy thing was that Blake took out Nadal. Nadal would not have thrown away a two set lead.
