Boris Becker : "Novak was mentally exhausted at USO because of Nadal's injury"

" Novak will be upset for the next two days, but then I am sure you will bounce back to win in Asia and finish the year at number one. E 'without doubt tired mentally. Probably under the mental level was not perfect also because of 'Nadal's injury. "

"As for the match, was too passive throughout the game, not putting pressure on Kei. The key of the match was September 3rd I immediately thought who would win that set, then it would have been the winner of the match. Kei has just deserved to win. "

Becker is either on drugs or this is a joke. I don't speak Italian so I have no clue what he really said. What the heck Nadal's injury have to do with Novak's sub-par performance at the USO?

Boris is right. Nice to hear a coach's analysis after a top player's loss.

I agree. As a Djokovic fan, I was worried / sad as soon as I heard about Nadal's withdrawal. Nadal's presence often makes him play better.

Anyway, Cilic is the real deal.

I think what did Nole in was seeing that guy on Nadal's boat a few months ago.

Novak Djokovic nº1!

Maybe, with Nadal not there, Nole was heavy favorite (that's what the bookies said going into the tournament). It's extra pressure. Although even if he beat Nishikori, he wasn't going to beat Cilic, who was an absolute BEAST .

Agree 100%. He would have lost to Cilic here. Barely beat him at Wimbledon and was playing MUCH better tennis then.

Boris' job is not to blame external factors on Nole's performance. Instead of providing match commentary on what Nole should've done, he needs to help Nole do those things, embarrassing stuff, really.

Understandable. McEnroe and Borg all over again.

When Borg retired early, Mac found it tough to keep his own level up, same with Djoko-Rafa.

Sorry guys, maybe you are onto something but I don't get it. Djokovic didn't even try against Kei. He looked completely unmotivated, as if he didn't want to be there. He played complete shit. Yeah, it was hot and humid but whatever. It's not that he lost, not a big deal you cant win everything. It is HOW he lost it ... I don't think that Nadal playing the USO this year would somehow motivate Djokovic. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Don't think nadal would have dropped in level if Djokovic pulls out of an event.
