Jan Michael Gambill

I'd heard that Jan Michael Gambill had started using a one handed forehand at Delray Beach earlier this year, so I wanted to know is this true or is he still using that ridiculous two handed forehand.

The way he's been playing, he's in danger of having to drop down to satellites or futures or resort to dating celebrites like Mark Phillipoussis, lol.

Re: Jan Michael Gambill

He used it for one match. Far as I know, hasn't used it much since.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Fee...

According to someone that went to the New Haven quallies, he's back with the double hander and was looking pretty impressive when he beat Cermak.

Re: Jan Michael Gambill

I've never understood why anyone would use a two-handed forehand. Is it just that their regular forehand is so awful that they need an extra hand?

What would Anderson say?

When I play, I have a two handed forehand. I just use it because it feels more comfortable for me

Yep, when he started playing tennis at age 5 he needed both hands to hold the racquet. He never corrected it.

AdeeGee, welcome back (again). Thanks for the info. Good to know JMG can still take it to a Doubles specialist who got himself into a qualie draw. Gives me hope....

he's not given you much to cheer about recently has he? I stick by what I said a while ago, he'll get back into the top 30 again before he retires.

Re: Jan Michael Gambill

At this point, I seriously doubt he will make it back to the Top 100. Perhaps I'll change my mind after I see him play next week. I am very curious what is going on in his head these days, I really am. I'm glad you're back dude.

Re: Jan Michael Gambill

Yeah, I really doubt he will be back playing at a high level again. Top 100 isn't out of the question, but I think top 50 is. I'd be pleasantly surprised if he can win a match or two at the US Open.

Re: Jan Michael Gambill

You don't just lose talent. It's all about confidence, and whether he's willing to put the work in to get back to the top. He's still got plenty of time on his side, if he can have a decent run at a tourny I reckon it might reignite his love for the game. Maybe I'm just being hopeful

Re: Jan Michael Gambill

Yes, 'permanent shin splints' that's what we'll call them. I'll play along...

He's been working his rear off, from what I hear. I just think he's making some poor decisions. He tells me in February he's willing to play Challengers to get matches and improve his ranking. Then he reportedly says he's done with Challengers and he's 'fired up' to play tour events, even if he has to qualify (Dude, you're ranked 142 in the world, stick with Challengers for a while since you haven't made it through qualies all year). Someone needs to knock some sense into him, so if you see a headline next week 'Woman ejected from USO for shaking pretty boy tennis pro' you'll know that I found him and gave it a try.

In danger of playing Satellites/Futures.. Yeah right! The 2 handed-forehand is very effective, and looks awesome

Inform him that some people still believe he'll get back in the top 30
