Re: US Open Qualifiers draw

Around 10pm NY time if we're lucky it should be posted on the US Open website. I.e. 3am UK time. I'm toying with the idea of staying up for it as I've nothing to get up for on tuesday, sad eh?

Andy Murray, Jonny Marray
Jamie Baker, Ross Hutchins, Richard Bloomfield, Colin Fleming
Roddick, Goffin, Karlovic, Inglot, Isner
Brown, Brands, Tsonga

Re: US Open Qualifiers draw

Yeah pretty sad m8.

Think I'll be waiting for tuesday morning before I find out.

Doesnt give players long to think about who they are playing against - as the first matches of the Qualies start on Tuesday morning.

Bizarre?

They are only qualifiers, they dont care if they dont have time to prepare for a particular opponent
At least they are still considered worthy to play on the same courts unlike Wimbledon

Do you think that might be something to do with the different qualities of Grass and Cement?

Yes definetly. The grass is almost totaly worn out as it is by the time they play the final. It makes sense to play qualies elsewhere.

Welcome to MTF. Are you an Andy Murray fan?

Answers like that can usually be found in the tournament subforums, and there is a thread there for the Qualie entry list that has all kinds of info in it (but I bet you've found that area by now ). The draw will be done about 8 pm, I believe, but it may take a while for it to actually get posted on the 'net somewhere (grumble grumble).

It is not bizarre for the Qualie draw to come out the night before play starts. That is the norm for most of the Challengers, Masters, and Slams. In fact, I can't think of a single tournament that does the qualie draw in advance (players need that last minute deadline to sign in, withdraw, etc, etc). I wonder if there is an ATP/ITF rule about it, but I'm too lazy to look, to be honest.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Thanks for the welcome, Fee.

Yes, I like Andy, I do think he is pretty arrogant/ confident, but I dont really care.

All Tennis players are expected to have really well developed life skills when virtually all of them are still just kids.

I'm sure he will develop his personality as things go on, and he seems to have a reasonable respect for the great players of the game, and so I think it's exciting for us Brits that we have someone that can give us hope for the future.

I dont think he is going to dominate world tennis, but he has a chance of being a top 20 player.

I also follow the other British players with a mixture of hope, desperation and disappointment. Although a late developer I think David Sherwood could come through to be the best of the rest and he's from Sheffield like me so that's good, although I think David's sights are realistically set on top 100 not top 20, but time will tell.

Got the draw now anyway, looks pretty tough for the Brits, but there are so many good players out there, that there's virtually no easy draws anyway.

Expect Andy to come through and hopeful that someone else might join him, Parmar has the best draw but usually falls just short.
