Re: New: Roger's Cup Curse

Why do they schedule so many of the Masters tournaments in pairs with no break between them? Indian Wells-Miami, Rome-Hamburg, Canada-Cincy?

It's so common for a player to reach the final of the first, and then either pull out of the next (Agassi in Cincy, Nadal in Hamburg), or lose in the first (Nadal in Cincy, Henman in Miami 2004, Federer in Cincy 2004).

And then, of course, they will criticise players for choosing not to play some of the Masters.

Re: New: Roger's Cup Curse

they do it to cut down the travel otherwise some players would have to make three or four trips to the States or likewise to Europe.

Re: New: Roger's Cup Curse

The Masters Series shouldn't have tournaments two weeks in a row and expect the top players to play great both weeks...

Another Game for Milos

Re: New: Roger's Cup Curse

It is not a curse.. It's just that Roger's Cup level was not up to TMS one.. As someone rightly put it, it was a freak show.. Out of 8 quarterfinalists of Montreal only Hrbaty is in the third round of Cincy.. It was just a second tier TMS.. No curse here..

Roddick managed to win both Roger's and Cincy and the USOpen in 2003. How many others have there been who won both Roger's and Cincy the same year?

It's important to take it into consideration that a player might not be at his best coming from one MS going to another. Roger won IW then went on to struggle in the final of Miami......perhaps he wasn't at his best in that final? Then Roger lost to Gasquet in Monte Carlo but still people weren't cutting him any slack even though he'd just been in two consecutive MS finals and won them. Many casual fans have no idea of how depleting is getting to the finals of MS events. Of course some maybe more so than others depending on the heat factor.

Roger Forever !
