Good question. If not Nadal then who is the form player right now? Federer?

Stop this pathetic baiting. Djokovic may well beat Nadal in RG. Ferrer & Murray have a chance too, hell even guys like Nishikori aren't completely outruled.

"When". You're obviously more confident about that than I am.

I'm still thinking it's likely to be same old same old. Nadal may have been sub-par by his standards, but I suspect he's coming into form just in time.

Re: Just How Open IS Roland Garros 2014 Actually?

Exactly!!!

I won't believe that Roland Garros is "open" even for a second. Not until Nadal actually loses. It really does not matter what form he is in. He eventually outlasts everyone. His endurance is absolute not human-like. He can play every day for hours and never feel tired. The only way someone can beat him at the French is if they pull a Soderling and play 3 amazing sets. Plenty of players can do it for a set, maybe a set and a half but I have yet to see anyone other than Soderling maintain a high level for 3 complete sets.

In almost a decade, ONLY 1 man has maintained a level high enough to beat Nadal, whatever form he may be in...

If Djoker doesn't get his wrist ready for FO then the trophy can be already handed to Nadal Sad but true.

Favorite players: Nieminen, Dolgopolov, Del Potro, Fognini, J.Sousa, Dreddy , Monfils, Wawrinka, Goffin, Tomic, Nishikori, Kyrgios

Re: Just How Open IS Roland Garros 2014 Actually?

Every day it looks a bit more like it won't be anymore open than usual, only weaker. However, given the shitty level of top guys, a red-hot guy coming out of nowhere could do some serious damage. A Nishikori-Monfils final cannot be completely ruled out.

And would you expect that to continue for ever?

While I think Nadal is the least susceptible to an early loss - and therefore the rightful favourite - he is almost at the tipping point in his career. Last year Djokovic ran him so close, and Nadal was fresh into that match. It's not hard for me to envisage this being the year that Nole gets him....considering the nature of their last clay matches.

Let's hope for some early upsets and a wide open RG....

Re: Just How Open IS Roland Garros 2014 Actually?

Nadal/Djokovic

Wawrinka

Federer

Others have chances but they're so remote that it's hardly worth mentioning. Maybe Ferrer, Nishikori (healthy) and Berdych are the best extreme outside bets but the problem with everyone apart from the four above is that it's hard to see anyone beating either Nadal or Djokovic in best of 5 on Clay whereas at least you could see Federer beating Nole on a one-off.

I agree with acacacacademy.

Who knows what could happen ? Did someone thought that Wawrinka would beat Nadal at AO or Soderling could beat him ? That is why no one likes to play his best in MS ? Did one thought Nishkori would outplay Nadal ? I have a feeling players will try their best in every match against Nadal so someone will beat him in next round so they have no pressure to defend title but Nadal has!!!

Re: Just How Open IS Roland Garros 2014 Actually?

So, with Wawrinka winning Monte Carlo (Finalist: Federer), Nadal winning Madrid (Finalist: Nishikori; was playing generally better on the match) and Djokovic winning Rome (Finalist: Nadal) it seems open on a certain degree.
