Is this year DC Team Swiss to lose?

Looks like it. Any matchup will favour Swiss Team badly.

Barring a catastrophe, they're already in the final. Italians are a joke on indoor hard courts.

And any surface Czech/France opt to play, The Swiss Team will be the favorite anyway.

Clay - Both Federer and Wawrinka are better than Stepanek/Berdych or Monfils/Gasquet/Tsonga.

Hard - any combination of bounce + pace of court would be better for Swiss players. Wawrinka likes slowest and low bouncing courts, Fed preferers faster and low bouncing. Both can play well with high bouncing courts too.

Grass - maybe would be the smartest choice, Wawrinka isn't good at grass, but I doubt they woud close grass in a matchup in which Fed will be playing.

Looks like Fed will be lifting the Davis Cup trophy soon! Good for the game!

Re: Is this year DC Team Swiss to lose?

Berdych has the potential to throw a spanner in the works but yeah its a great opportunity

grass v Czech would be a no go because Wawrinka ain't good enough

so I'd say indoor hard for sure

If the French beat the Czech's then the Swiss have a amazing chance

Yeah, exactly because of that I said this would be the smarter choice! Swiss will be playing away in the final. Czech/France will selected the surface!

Is there a good enough grass court in Czech Republic/France to hold this?

ahh right, I misread and thought the Swiss had the choice both times but its just v Italy

I'm sure they could set up a indoor grass court

I think indoor clay would be the French's only hope, certainly not hard

EDIT: for the French get indoor clay that is like mud and have them train on it for an entire month, Federer and Wawrinka coming from WTF to that would be shocked and hopefully for the french never get used to it

thats their only hope

Hmm you are totally overrating Roger and Stan. On clay, Jo defeated Roger in Roland Garros, Gaël is better than Stan. And actually Roger can lose against many guys, even on indoor. I don't see Swiss winning if France is in the final with all his best players.

No. Czech's will win their third title in a row. Wawrinka is awful in DC and will be exposed by stronger competition.

Re: Is this year DC Team Swiss to lose?

The Swiss will sleepwalk through team Italy, but I wouldn't say they are a lock against Czech Republic or France.

Grass against the Czechs would be very difficult - Berdych always plays extremely well against Fed and beat him at Wimbledon a few years back. Plus Wawa is just awful on grass (First round losses at Wimbledon in the past two years). Clay and Hard should ideally favor the Swiss, but again, Stepanek and Berdych are veterans/past champions of Davis Cup who always seem to do well in front of a rowdy crowd.

If the French win, then the Swiss's odds are better. The only danger is if Tsonga returns to form. At his best, he causes issues for both Fed and Wawa. Gasquet at peak level can go toe-to-toe with Wawrinka (RG last year) but anything less than his absolute best and he'll get steamrolled by both Swiss. Monfils is extremely unpredictable and capable of playing great tennis, but he seems to do so less and less these days. Plus, with an excited home crowd, the chances of him clowning around are quite high.

I'd give the Swiss a 60% of winning the title.

Re: Is this year DC Team Swiss to lose?

Fast indoor court basically neutralizes Wawrinka. No time to hit on the BH, FH becomes extremely erratic with tons of shanks. His returning indoors is also horrendous.

Re: Is this year DC Team Swiss to lose?

No, just play the final on a grasscourt to neutralize Wawrinka, while still giving Berdych/in form Tsonga a pretty good shot of beating Federer.

Re: Is this year DC Team Swiss to lose?

Czechs still favourites imo. Davwrinka looks very beatable in singles and I don't see anyone beating Berdych/Steps in doubles.

Murray ~ Djokovic ~ Tsonga ~ Del Potro
