Did Karlovic really deserve this?

he just drew danielle bracciale in the first round (the guy who beat him in the final at surbition). he's lost to 3 guys on grass this year, what was the probability of getting 2 of them in the first two rounds

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

I don't think it was anything against him personally. Just the luck of the draw. After last week at Queens, he should have the confidence to step onto the grass with just about anyone and feel he has a chance.

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

I just checked the match stats at Surbiton, Karlovic plays tiebreakers all over the place even in Challengers lol.

S Rettenmaier, Travis (USA ) N/A 7-6(11) 7-6(6)

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

Didn't Bracciali also retire from his third qualifying match and only get in as a LL? Is he injured or did he just know he was gonna get a LL Spot and give up?

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

Bracciali was at least 3rd on the LL list when he retired (4th if Seppi hadn't finished his match yet) so he took a pretty big risk retiring from that match with a few of the guys ahead of him still on court. He got in when Canas withdrew a few hours ago.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

So he's really injured then? In that case, he shouldn't really trouble Ivo that much.

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

It's pretty pathetic that most of the LL are people that retired from matches. If you retire from a match, you should be out of the tournament.

Lucky Losers are just living up to the title.

BTW if I were in a tournament and had to play against a LL, I'd want one who retired in their last match so it would be likely the LL wouldn't be playing his/her best and possibly retire again. So by the same logic, shouldn't Karlovic be happy that at least there's the possibility his first round opponent will retire?

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

He deserved it, nobody told him to have such a boring while effective game on grass
No seriously, it's bad luck. But if he feels like returning well and winning some points on his opponents' serves, he could go far... I still think he won't get past the 2nd round.

Re: Did Karlovic really deserve this?

Bracciali is very talented but if he is injured then this should not be too big of a problem for IVO.
