Schalken out of Wimbledon

http://www.sjengschalken.nl
Sjeng Schalken withdrew from Wimbledon after losing his R2 match against Sanguinetti in Rosmalen. That achillestendon problem is still troubling him.
Poor Sjeng. He reached the Quarters at Wimbledon in 2002, 2003 and 2004. And now he'll miss out...
Such a bad day for dutch tennis after Misa Krajicek's knee injury earlier today.

Re: Schalken out of Wimbledon

Too bad I didn't know he was still hurt. Hoping for a speedy recovery for him. Achilles tendon injuries can be bad

He was very courageous to play in Rosmalen in pain.

Re: Schalken out of Wimbledon

Not a surprise, I suppose, considering that he was moving very gingerly when I saw him play against Phau on Monday, but still... it's back to the challenger wilderness for the foreseeable future.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Schalken out of Wimbledon

I was at the Ordina Open today, saw him play and his backhand just didn't wanna work and also his movement was very careful.
I really hope that he will be physically and mentally fit soon after more than a year of trouble. Really bad day for the dutchies.
