Safin: No luck in GS draws?

FO: every round he had to play a dirt baller or a very good player (like Roger)

Wimbledon: every round (almost) he has to play a grass court player

Paradorn
Mark
F.Lopez
Ancic
Hewitt
Federer
Roddick

is this a tough draw or what?

Re: Safin: No luck in GS draws?

YTD Records of his first three opponents
Paradorn: 11 - 16
Flip: 3 - 3
Lopez: 16 - 17

Is that supposed to scare anyone?

Re: Safin: No luck in GS draws?

It is tough. In the type of court where he needs luck the most he doesn't have any. But he'll do fine, I hope... It's his mind that spoils everything. He can beat all of those people or lose to any of them.

Q: You have been described as brilliant and unpredicatble, how would you describe yourself?

Marat Safin: Same as you said.

Marat: I couldn't beat him(Andy Roddick) here. Can you imagine if I beat him here, what's gonna happen (smiling)........

Q: So what would happen if you beat him here?

Marat: I don't want to think about it, what would happen. What would happen to the tournament, to the crowd, to the people? I don't know. I don't want to think about it.

Cwipes

Looks like an absolute SHOCKER for Marat. Every round a grass court specialist. He'll be lucky to beat Paradorn. But the way he's been playing (last Match v Fed shows he has class to live and hit with Fed) means he can beat everyone on tour except Fed

Plus Philippoussis will most probably lose to Beck, who's more dangerous anyway.

Re: Safin: No luck in GS draws?

Paradorn - poor form on other surfaces recently, grass court form promising with QF in Nottingham. Has won a grass court title. Safin should beat him.

Scud - Too many injuries, 2nd Rd loss to Roddick in Queens. Played average against Roddick. Not much form to show of but can play good at Wimby. Safin will beat him.

LOPEZ - dunno is he a grass player at all? He's spanish after all. Safin can beat him

ANCIC - Grass court specialist. Safin's toughest test i reckon.

HEWITT- Well safin beat him in Aus. Open so shouldn't be too hard i reckon.

DENT- Serve Volleyer. May annoy the crap out of Safin.

Lopez is quite adept on grass. Wimbledon is his best Slam, in three years, he's made the 4th round twice and 3rd round last year.

Well, not tougher than for anyone else. The 1st rounds depend more on Marat's form and mood. I'd be glad to see him into 2nd week but don't really expect him to win the title.

No need to worry - Safin is a grass court specialist now.

Hopefully, Dimitry Turnusov is not in his quarter this year.

That usually applies, but exceptions are Henman at Wimbledon and Agassi anywhere.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Machado wins 6-2 6-1
