Roddick bt Philippousis 6-2 6-4

Mark did well to get past Sluiter but here's where the real tennis starts.
(Okay the red stuff is tennis too but so different! The whole ethos of playing on clay hitting those loopy shots.. let's just say hearing the sound of flat shots being hit is music to my ears again) .

Andy is showing how he can really play on a surface he likes. 6-2 to him on the first set and he's really taking Mark apart and it's not like Mark is playing badly. In fact flipper looks as fit as I've seen him but Andy is just playing sublime tennis (well as sublime as it can be bearing in mind it's the start of the grass court season). In particular, Andy is actually playing well on his BH side and he's actually hitting some down the line passes on that wing. And of course his serve is so much more potent.

Yup.. thank god for the start of the fast court season. Clay is well and good but I'd started to forget how much faster tennis can be!

Contrary to popular belief, I am not a Rafa hater. I am, however, a RAFATARD hater and therefore take endless delight in each Rafa loss as it allows me to sock it hard to his tards. Do try and understand the difference (TARDS)! Don't get me started on Choke-ovic though. Him I do despise. And his TARDS are the lowest of the low .

Re: Roddick-Philippousis

Philippousis just played yesterday, where as Roddick had a bye into the first round. I don't think Philippousis has a chance......isn't his knee still a constant problem?

Re: Roddick-Philippousis

Mark's got nothing on Andy's service today (sofar). He's playing much better off his own serve this set than he did towards the end of the first, however.

I'm loving these BBC Sport people though. Oh, yessssssss...

Andy.
Flip.

I guess for Flip, it was probably expected, there's no shame in losing to Andy on grass. I guess we'll see him around at Wimbledon, has a WC I think?

no chance of that being true

unless the only time you've seen him has been through his terrible 04, and just as bad beginning of 05

A shame he had to run into Roddick this early..

Re: Roddick bt Philippousis 6-2 6-4

Thanks for the review JustmeUK, I'm glad Andy came out ready to play and win.

As least Flip didn't hurt himself in this match.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Re: Roddick bt Philippousis 6-2 6-4

It's a good sign for Flip, though, that he's healthy and out there and stuff. I agree, very unfortunate that he didn't have a better draw. I want to see him do well so badly.

But it was nice to see Andy start out strong on grass

Re: Roddick bt Philippousis 6-2 6-4

Not the slightest chance for Philippoussis. IMO Roddick gunned him totally down and I never had the feeling Philippoussis has a chance in this match. Also some great returns by Andy, well done so far. But of course this is not enough for bigger tasks so I hope he play better in the following rounds!

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Andy...you are on your way to appealing Debs verdict.

Re: Roddick bt Philippousis 6-2 6-4

Andy nice to see he opens his grass season with a quick and fierce win

With each passing season, I discover new reason
SAMPRAS --> Rios --> KUERTEN --> Kafelnikov -->
Federer --> Hewitt --> RODDICK --> GONZALEZ -->
NALBANDIAN --> Benneteau --> Davydenko --> Mathieu -->
TURSUNOV --> Mantilla --> KIEFER --> NADAL -->
Karlovic --> Odesnik --> Stepanek --> Monfils -->
??

No surprise here at all. Flip had no chance in this one.
