Guga vs New King of Clay!

The commentators announced Nadal the new king of clay after his victory yesterday. Not since Ferrero and Guga before him has that title been rewarded so eagarly. Does Nadal deserve that title and is he better than Guga in his prime, who was adored by the Parsian crowd?

I think Nadal is in definitley better shape, and his ability to be able to get to the ball.

Re: Guga vs New King of Clay!

Did Guga not make the Wimbledon QF once?

There is not a doubt in my mind that Nadal will equal that some day. As of yet he clearly has not

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Where were you in 2002-2003? Surely no where near the internet or a TV... or sports news of any kind.

Nadal.

Re: Guga vs New King of Clay!

Guga's Wimbledon QF was a fluke. He's a terrible grasscourt player. That's why he's skipped it three of the past four years.

Re: Guga vs New King of Clay!

In 2002 Ferrero had a great warmup to RG and then fell flat in the semis. In 2003 he blew really hard between Monte Carlo and Roland Garros.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Wimbledon is a random slam with lots of random QFists. Sa, anybody? Still, Guga did it and deserves credit for that. JCF never did it

Re: Guga vs New King of Clay!

Okay so what does it take to be the "King of Clay"?

In my opinion, it would be the person who gets the best results during the claycourt season.

I believe in both 2002 and 2003 that would fall to Ferrero.

I didn't say he doesn't deserve credit for it but you can't say that a QF at Wimbledon makes someone a great grasscourt player, just like you can't call Thomas Johansson a rebound ace demon for winning the Australian Open.
