Davis Cup R1 Rubber 1: Federer (SUI) def. Bozoljac (SRB) 6-4 7-5 6-2 SUI 1-0

This was the most lopsided of the 8 first round ties, so no surprise about this result, but Bozoljac actually played well the first 2 sets.

Bozoljac had a SP in the 2nd on 5-2*. Fed saved, held, broke back, held and broke again. End of story. But he did well up to that point.

What's kind of funny about this match is that the sets were similar to the ones these two played at Wimbledon. Kept him in close control until that 3rd set. I also think at Wimbledon the Serb had 18-20 aces as well.

Good day at the office bar the 2nd set. but Bozljac is the kind of player who can play extremly well a set or 2 but does not have what it takes to win matches at this level.

Roger Federer | Benoît Paire| Stanislas Wawrinka | Nick Kyrgios

Bozo had 5-2* 40-40 in second set, then *5-3 30-30. Missed a pretty easy volley on a serve/volley that would have given him set pt. It was all down hill from there. Bozo and the crowd deflated fast.

The surface looked really fast, which maybe accounts for the sudden changes in the pattern of this match (Fed in complete Summer'13 mugginess -> awful choking from Bozo -> Fed in cruise control)

One of those matches where Federer could lose a set but at the end of the day the win was never in doubt.Tough for the Serbs having a home tie and pretty much guaranteed to lose.

19 Aces and 7 DF for the Serb on the medium-fast courts vs. Federer 7 and 0. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't serve well enough in that 5-2 game to take the second set. After he was broken there, Federer didn't falter, and Bozoljac knew he had missed his chance and lost belief. Federer served pretty well and was solid in the first set. He almost gave away the second set with unforced errors on sitting duck forehands. He played very clutch in the 2-5 game to rescue the set and then bore down and cruised thereafter.

If I'm not mistaken those seven aces places Federer on top for most aces so far in 2014, at least until Querrey plays his match later today.

So we can all agree that Federer is a servebot these days?

He is.

Fed just botted Murray off the court in Oz. Disgusting tennis.

This is men's tennis, not the WTA. It's supposed to be a weapon, not a garden party introduction.

Not the best performance but he got the job done. I don't think Fed particularly enjoys playing Bozo. He's got a big unpredictable serve & backhand.
