he is all-in type of a player, so these MM events aren't something he really cares about

I assume your use of 'pride' is derogatory? Nobody but Federer-haters would condemn him for playing Estoril a few times for match-play and confidence. Same with Nadal this year in Latin America. Attending a few 250s to compensate for weakness on a surface/injury is a different matter entirely from constantly attending 250s just for the points. The former isn't vulturing at all.

Bautista Agut | Bellucci | Blake | Dimitrov | Dodig | Ferrero | Fognini | Gasquet | Hewitt | Kohlschreiber | Murray | Raonic | Rosol | Seppi | Tsonga | Tursunov | Verdasco

I'd like to see him do it but I sadly doubt he will.

Fair enough. He has shown he's willing to mix up his calendar however. Skipping February altogether this year, including an event he finaled at just last year, just to train for Indian Wells took me by surprise at least. I could see him making a similar commitment to the clay season one year and trading MC for Estoril or some other 250 clay event before Madrid.

this is actually a good post. I also agree with Scoobs. Andy needs to start somewhere. i.e. Murray playing Estoril is a good idea. It's not about the points, it's gaining more clay matches under his belt and winning the title. getting more confidence. Prime Fed played Estoril.

It is more likely that you will be the next 007 than hooligan winner of the clay event.

Re: Andy Murray on clay. Will he ever win a clay title?

Andy playing a 250 would be a good idea. When Nadal and Federer started out they played a lot of smaller clay tournies to build the confidence. For someone who's never had that much success on clay, it would be a good idea to play one or two smaller clay events.

Federer fan, writer, tennis player.

Re: Andy Murray on clay. Will he ever win a clay title?

Murray hasn't competed in a 250/500 event so far this year (besides the Brisbane International). His next will probably be Queens, the only 250/500 event he is scheduled for in the remainder of 2013. Have no idea why he doesn't participate in a few minor clay tournaments, whether it be during the North American or European clay court season. He's probably scared MTF will label him as a vulture.

Tomic [tom-ic] [tom-ic-ing]
verb
1. apply yourself for a small period of time before giving up. (I am tomicing this match).
noun
2. play exceedingly well for a month and then give fallacious promises to the world. (He performed a Tomic)

He went to (and won) Brisbane this year. Just to clarify.

Yeah, I just edited that in my post as soon as I published it. Initially slipped my mind.
