No, we haven't seen the best from Andrew Murray OBE on clay. Last year he didn't really have much time with lendl to sort his clay court game out... I suspect it will come this year.

Mark Lenders banged your girlfriend, I'm sorry to tell you that mate.

Re: Have we seen the best from Murray on clay?

He's played well on clay before. Just to name a few matches:
- Rome 2011 vs Djokovic (Arguably the best complete match he's played on the surface, had a great chance to win it)
- Monte-Carlo 2011 vs Nadal (Second set he completely outplayed Rafa, best set he's played on the surface)
- Roland Garros 2011 vs Nadal (Although losing in straights he kept it very competitive each set)

His game suits the surface well and if he can just manage to keep a good consistent level on the surface he'll definitely be achieving better results than he is now.

Since he's never made a final on clay either I would like it if he played a 250 on the surface, doing well in one and finally reaching a final or winning a title on clay will only do his self belief a lot of good.

There's definitely a lot more to Murray's game on clay and if he is to have any chance of ever being being at the top of the world rankings, he needs to discover it.

I think that could be down to disappointing ends to the last 3 AOs. It'll be interesting to see how he performs if he were to win tomorrow. He'll never be as good as Novak or Rafa on clay but he's still surely a contender with a bigger chance than people seem to be making out.

Murray is a brilliant mover and point builder. It's just a matter of time before he puts it all together. This year he has a chance to be world number one if he performs well on clay.

Re: Have we seen the best from Murray on clay?

There's no reason why a person like Murray shouldn't do well on clay - his game suits the surface and he spent a lot of his development on clay. I think, assuming he is mentally 'there', he should perform this season on the dirt.

Re: Have we seen the best from Murray on clay?

Now that he's sorted his forehand out, there's no reason why he shouldn't perform well on clay. His 2nd Serve is still a weakness, but ultimately not as important on that surface as the big groundies and point construction.

He moves well, he's obviously very fit, and he's reportedly packed on an additional few lb's of muscle over the winter to give his ground game more juice. Could have been done on purpose by Lendl to primarily prepare him for an assault on the clay season. Makes sense, as there's points to gain. I guess we won't know until we hear it from the horse's mouth.

He was very good in 2011 so I can't see why with improved mentality and forehand he can be more effective. Dot forget last clay season he had back issues

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

How many times in the last 20 years?

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”
