Re: Murray's no slouch on clay!

Murray spent many years as a junior playing tennis on the clays of Spain and France. And clay is played upon in the UK as well. So Murray SHOULD be good on clay.

But, there are too many players that can beat Murray now. Murrays biggest problem is his lack of offensive weapons. With the right conditions on a hard, and the right opponent, Murray can show his offense. But he doesn't have the pop or the drive to create a lot of pace when the conditions are slower. And he is a little too big and heavy to remain a defenisve specialist, this is why he is always so tired, he runs far too much for his size, and drains himself for the rest of the tournament.

And Murray has a mostly garbage serve. I don't think Murray could beat Djocko anymore on any surface any day, and I think Delpo would slaughter Murray in a brutal and non kosher manner, on any surface.

Don't get me wrong, Murray is a wonderful player, who has a chance at getting a slam one day (but I doubt it). But he has shown no significant improvement over the years, while Djocko and Nadal have vastly improved upon their game, willing to tinker with the strings, rackets, and even service motions. Even the aging Fed has added a stroke that he plays better than any player, the drop shot.

I can honestly say I've never seen you post anything credible. There's nasty, and then there's you.

Haha, you're not funny.

So, you're saying Nadal lose a set 6-2 by being outclassed by a player worse than a slouch on clay? Give us a break

I seriously doubt Murray would lose a set to Lorenzi, unless he played with a baseball bat

You make it sound as if he was horrible on clay. If he's so horrible on clay, why has he reached the RG quarter-finals, won a set against Nadal, reached 2 Monte Carlo semi-finals and a quarter-finals. He will probably get another semi-final here in Rome. That makes 3 semi-finals. Pretty respectable results for a crap claycourt player

Re: Murray's no slouch on clay!

Murray does not have a great ability to adjust when he is losing. He just sticks to his mostly defensive tactics. He is a little two dimensional that way.

He was lucky to win against Xavier. Malise was certainly playing great tennis, but look at how easily Fed dispatched him. Fed was able to attack and counter attack to punch holes in Xaviers movement, while Murray completely failed to do this. The only reason Murray won was due to Mallise being tired in the third. This is not surprising since Malise is notoriously an out of shape, low endurance player, and he is also a bit old at almost 31.

I don't like how Murray has not improved his game at all. Look at the drastic changes Rafa made when he lost to Soderling at the French. He changed his strings, adjusted his grip, and hitted flatter. Novak changed his raquet, changed his service motion TWICE. Fed added a drop volley and a drop shot to his arsenal. And these changes have paid off for all of them to differing degrees. Novak has become a gangsta with raquet.

Murray on the other hand is just stagnant. And Murray also catipulates sets, when he is losing. The way he did last night in the second set against Xavier. This is a terrible sign in a player. For someone 6'3 he should also have a much better serve. Murray is still great on the hards, only surface he can win titles at this point in time. But I see his defensive style burning him out and giving him injuries.

He's done worse. He lost to Young and Bogomolov in straights on his favorite surface

Andy was trained in Spain so he must be used to it, but not like it. Hard court is his fav surface probably.

2 semis in 2 clay masters in 2011. Better than clay-court clowns Almagro, Boredo, Dasco and Monaco.
Whatever happens against Djokovic tonight, we all know how dangerous Murray can be on this surface

Re: Murray's no slouch on clay!

Murray's top level on clay appears to be pretty impressive - but you still have to suspect he doesn't really like the stuff.

Against guys like Berdy/Ferrer/Almagro/Sod/etc, where he doesn't have that special motivation of trying to beat a top guy, I'm dubious he'd win.
