And, as part of my prediction for his domination in 2013, I see him winning Roland Garros with amazing claycourt play. The guy is definitely not a clown, and at his best on the surface, is top 5 at least.
Top five is a bit of an exaggeration because I doubt he can defeat Almagro, Ferrer or Bellucci just yet. Top ten definitely. He can easily take out the likes of Verdasco, Bandy, Monaco etc the way he plays clay these days.

Almagro? He can definitely beat him at his best. Bellucci? Depends on how Bellucci plays. Ferrer? No, don't really see him beating him yet.

Re: Murray's no slouch on clay!

Obviously capable enough on clay to win a set against Nadal on his favourite clay in Monte Carlo which is most similar to Roland Garros clay. An that is not easy.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

If Murray can avoid The Don then he can have a lot of success on the tour.

24 is my precise prediction.

Wimbledon 2011, Uso2011, Ao2012, the calendar slam in 2016 and Wimbledon 2019 beating Grigor Dimitrov in 5 sets in a match umpired by Lahyani.

Murray hasn't reached a single ATP final on clay.

Top 5 claycourter in the world? Great stuff.

Re: Murray's no slouch on clay!

His SF appearance in Monte Carlo suggests he can play on the surface if everything comes together. He probably will not be consistent until his games still matures on every surface though. Great talents, but there seems to be something still holding him back, even in spite of his final appearances at GS.

All Italian Players

Especially Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini

Juan Martin Del Potro

Roger Federer

Thomas Berdych

Fernando Verdasco

SF at MC. QF at RG. This guy deserves some credit for doing better than most on his least preferred surface. If he plays with heart as he did at MC, he might get another SF at RG this year.

He says it's his favorite surface. Yet Sampras gets called a clay clown with better results. MTF at its finest.

And? Have you seen his results? Pushing Nadal? The OP is right, he can do everything on clay, he's just inconsistent! If he plays his best on clay in every match, he will be in every semi-final at least.

And WHY do you think he's consistent on most other surfaces but not on clay? Let me guess, he's had bad luck in every clay tournament he's played?

Gulbis pushed Nadal last year, when he was playing better than this year, to boot. If Gulbis played his best on clay in every match, he'd be a multiple-RG champion already.

"Tough match?" World #3 Federer's ("greatest player to have ever played the game," you just said before rushing off the bathroom to change your underwear) H2H against World #58 Seppi is 6-0.

If it wasn't tough, Federer's victory would not be as glorious and godlike! Naturally, if Seppi and Isner were in Nadal's side of the draw, any victory that he managed to scrape out against these Tough Titans of Tennis would be pure luck!

Because clay's his worst surface?

Really not that hard, if you think about it That doesn't take away the fact he can be a brilliant claycourter.

He,s good but don,t forget RG last year. Berdych Crushed him! Maybe the New coach will change his fortunes. He did have a Major hangover from Djokovic Embarrising him in AO THOW! No Masters on Clay. Maybe he will get 1 somewhere, Someday. Not here though that,s Certain. Sorry.
