French Open Men's Final: the best day of the year...but saddest too :-(

Okay.... you can all laugh at me, yell at me, make fun of me...

But I love tennis on the dirt.

And I dislike the grass...and I really don't care about hardcourts...serve serve serve...

And all my favorites are the clay court guys - Nico, Fena, Rafa, JC, Fer, Feli, Guille, David F., Gaston...

If only the entire year could be played on clay, I would be the happiest person on earth.

So here's to next February - the start of the clay court season in 2006!!!

And love the strategy aspect of the game on clay...none of that on hardcourts. All power...which is boring...

Re: French Open Men's Final: the best day of the year...but saddest too :-(

I really do understand how you feel. I like clay too. Although I must admit I like grass alot too.

But my view is that I always get great pleasure at watching players play on their worst surface. How well a player fights when they are on a surface they are not comfortable on reveals more about a players character than anything else. I love watching a good claycourter adapting their game to grass. Many are very good at it.

Nadal, Verdasco, Ferrero and yes even Massu (3rd round in 2001) can all play on grass to a pretty good standard. Nadal could be very very good on grass in a couple of years. Gonzalez hasn't yet learnt to adapt his game to grass but when/if he does it will be real fun to watch.

And Lopez is anything but a claycourt specialist. I've seen Lopez play on grass a few times and his game is made for grass and I have no doubt one of these years we will see him in the semi finals of Wimbledon.

So don't get too disheartened. Just enjoy watching your favorites as they handle their toughest challenge. Keep your expectations low and when you see them produce a good win you can be truly proud of them for winning in the most challenging of circumstances.

You're right...Feli does not like the clay...lol!

I think Fena got to the 3rd round last year at Wimbledon too...so maybe he can improve this year.

And Nico won on the hardcourts at the Olympics.

So all is not lost...just prefer them on clay (except Feli)..

I know you don't like Lopez which is fair enough. And on clay his game certainly has weeknesses, particularly the backhand, but on grass that backhand slice works a treat. I suspect you haven't seen him play on grass before. On grass he really does play with real style. I don't expect he will ever be a particularly strong player on clay but on grass he does have a great game.

Agree, that´s exactly why grass is the best surface for him. He only can hit the slice on his bh and that´s a pretty efficient stroke on grass.

Wrong suspect. I think I´ve seen all his matches in Wimbledon and I think some others in Halle I think it was. His return abilities are poor, he´s not strong mentally, he´s not a good volleyer as many people tend to agree and imo he´s not good enough to reach semis there or ever win another ATP title.

Hmmm.......I must say his match against Canas three years ago was one of the most entertaining matches I've see at Wimbledon and his performances vs Youzhny, Schuettler and Saretta were all really strong. I would say he's a pretty good volleyer actually. Sure he makes a mess of some volleys but who doesn't.

Seeing as you dislike Lopez so much I must say I'm surprised that you have put yourself through the displeasure of seeing every one of his Wimbledon matches. That would be like me listening to every single Oasis album and b-side as well. Gosh that's a horrible thought.

You would be surprised of the kind of matches my eyes have witnessed (last big one was a Carlsen vs Srichaphan on clay in Barcelona )

I would have enjoyed watching that. It would have appealed to my taste for black comedy.

No bleeping way, I think clay season is too long anyway, and no I dont dislike clay. I just think one of the masters should be played on grass.
