Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

Well, I found the first few rounds acceptable, but as the tournament advanced, it seemed more boring, this is just my opinion, but I would like to know yours

I didn't enjoy from 4th round on, there were just very few great matches IMO.

Carpe Diem

Ah, the fourth round.
The upsets were stunning and exciting for one day,
but I would like to have seen Coria, Gaudio, and Safin all advance to the later rounds.
After the fourth round, the tournament became all about Fed vs. Nadal,
and when that match didn't live up to the hype today,
I felt like somebody let air out of a balloon.
Oh well.

On the mens and womens side: NO!

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

No. It was the most unremarkable grand slam i've seen so far and that goes the same for the women's side. With an exception of a few quality matches like the safin-ferrero clash, there's not much to talk about this slam. Even the federer-nadal match was boring near the end.

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

There has been something missing...other players besides Nadal, real fights like Nadal vs Coria or JCF vs Safin. 2005 French Open has been Nadal's Grand Slam and he is winning without much effort or real rival. Federer just bent over like everybody else does with him. Perhaps Puerta...

On the men side yes, there were a couple of wonderful matches. In the women's side it was awful. I hope Mary and Justine can make a really good final or I will be very dissapointed.

No. I want rafa to win it, that would make it a bit better, but when Ferrero lost was awful, and when Coria and Gaudio lost and the same day was awful too.

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

This year's AO was the most exciting GS I'd ever watched.
Perhaps I expected the similar things from RG as well.

I agree with you Lucas - though I never enjoy womens' tennis so that view is the norm for me! It's a shame Marat didn't go further in the draw, and also David and Gaston - but I was at RG for the first 8 days, and some of the earlier round mens' matches (especially on the outside courts) were amazing.

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

I actually preferred the women's side: not because of the superior tennis - coz to be far there wasn't any - but because more of the women I support made it to the later rounds. Most of the men I root for didn't even make the 2nd week so i was a little bit detached when watching the men's side. The two matches involving Marat (v Ferrerro and v robredo) were my favourites.

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

I was dissappointed with the first week, but it's gotten much better as the tournament progressed, starting with the day of the upsets. Gaudio-Ferrer would have been great, but they didn't show it. Davydenko - Coria was probably very interesting to watch, but they didn't show it. I didn't see Ferrero - Safin and also missed the first set of Federer - Gonzalez.

But after that it got much better, as tv couldn't just show crappy matches any longer. Robredo - Dafin, Puerta - Canas, Robredo - Davydenko, Puerta - Davydenko. I loved those matches. On the other side, the tournament director ruined it by having the winner of Gaudio-Ferrer play Nadal the next day.

I reckon they should consider to make draws based on clay performances instead of predominantly hardcourt rankings (ie ATP rankings). There's no way Ferrer, Gaudio, Gasquet and Nadal should have been in the same quarter of the draw. Same really (but to a lesser extent) for Coria, Ferrero, Safin and Davydenko. I don't think they're going to change it any time soon (if ever), but I do wsih they would.

TV coverage needs to improve for next year.

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

2004 overall was a much better tournament than the RG of this year, but it has been alright, there have been worse and there have been better.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Did you enjoy this year's French Open?

well no because i haven't been able to see a thing and have to rely on livescores. and compared with last year when i was actually there, it was crap to have to be stuck here haha. but from what i can gather, there have been heaps of great 5 setters and, since i'm a huge Rafa fan, i have to say i am reaaallllyyy pleased and if he can win i'll be even happier...but it's also great to see an outsider like puerta get to the final after all he's been through
