I think it's a refreshing bout of honesty. But, I wish him all the best. Seems like a pretty nice guy, and I've got nothing against him.

Re: Ferrer doesn't think he can win slam

Pics is probably one of the biggest overachievers in tennis history and I say this with respect to him. It's not like he is not trying hard to win his matches. He is a fighter. Unfortunately, he doesn't really have major weapons to win big matches against guys like Djokovic, Nadal, Murry or DP. He can manage to defeat one of them here and there but that's it.

So, I wouldn't say, in his particular case, that he doesn't have a winning mentality. He wouldn't be where he is if he didn't. He is aware of his own limitations. He is also vulnerable to other top 10 players.

I'm sure he'll try his best to go as far as he can in majors. The problem is Ferrer's best is not enough to win a major no matter how you look at it. I wish him luck.

If he peaks for the French again and someone takes Rafa out for him then there is a chance.

Re: Ferrer doesn't think he can win slam

He is right about his chances, but I find him to be very pessimistic. Why would his age suddenly be showing? if anything he got better with age, and he certainly did not lose a step. Why would Raonic etc suddenly be a threat to him? he eats those youngsters for breakfast.

There really is no reason to be so pessimistic, top 4 is a realistic goal. Yet it is like he knows something we don't know judging from the way he speaks...very weird

Re: Ferrer doesn't think he can win slam

Ferrer pretty much maximised his potential. He hasn't got the game to constantly threaten the best players in the world over five sets. That said I have huge respect for what he has achieved in his career. Ferru can deal with the power of ball bashers, he can out grind grinders and run with the toughest fighters but against in form Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Murray, possibly should add del Potro to the list aswell, he's just in too deep. They all in their own seperate ways have too much for him, he knows that, we know that and he aint beating them back to back over five sets during the final week of a slam. Won't happen and all credit to Ferru for admitting it.

Ferrer is 6-3 against Del Potro and you make it sound like it's the other way around. Those 6 wins were in big tournaments too by the way.

Sure against Nadal and Djokovic he is fighting an uphill battle, no doubt about it, but even against Murray he is 5-7 and the last 2 Murray wins were tight matches.

you took my post kinda literally. My point was that Pics could take one of these players out here and there but not all of them in the same tournament. I'm also talking about now, and I'd put my money on Del Potro any time assuming DP is fit and healthy. Don't forget Ferrer is going to be 32yo next year.

Anyway, I'd love to see him winning a major although no matter what odds are against him no matter how you look at it.
