Dont think this helps nadal bc it will make retrieving harder and they sped up the aussie courts another 5-10% again this year plus they are adding faster balls. Not sure if the 5-10% speed bump is with the new balls or just the court surface alone.

Not too suprising bc the tournament supervisor or head is one of the biggest proponents of speeding up the courts as he did last year and was saying he would keep doing it every year. He was ecstatic with the response from shanghai speeding up the courts as well.

Expect a faster australian open at baseline with the court alone being at least last years speed or a touch (5-10%) faster. Then add the lighter, faster balls.
Should also add this year may be one of the hotter ones in some time.

hope to see some exciting offensive tennis for once.

Mmmm all this to help Stosur.... Right.... Like we can't feel Toni's ice cold hand in this business....

Have you watched a badminton match? If people want to see a bunch of gymnasts striking slow / not bouncing balls in a indoor court they should try this sport.

This seems to be a popular misconception. Rafa doesn't play well on low-bouncing courts. He tends to over-spin his forehand to make up for that and balls land short or go long/wide. That's why he hates the O2 court and that court is ridiculously slow but the bounce is low. He likes his clay relatively fast, too. Prime example is at Monte Carlo this year. Heavy conditions, the court was slower, the ball stayed lower, and that favored Nole. Compare to the second week of RG where it was hotter, drier, and Rafa's ball took off. It's the bounce, not the speed. A high bounce doesn't bother Rafa as much as it does other players but a low bounce does.

the balls won't help Stosur get a better backhand

This is sort of true, but I'd say not quite. He likes slow, high-bouncing best but he'd rather have it fast and high-bouncing than slow and low-bouncing.

Matosevic, Hanescu, Lorenzi, Kukushkin, Chiudinelli, Gulbis, Bozoljac, Gabashvili, Hernych, Brown, Garcia-Lopez, Rosol, Zeballos, Istomin, Kohlschreiber, Tursunov, Robert, Gonzalez, Monaco, Thiem, Seppi

Re: Lively balls for AO 2014

What does it say about Dull that he has to have weather conditions, courts and other things that favour him to have a chance of winning? Hilarious! Most matches he plays everything favours him and not his opponents, yet his silly fans whine about anything that doesn't help him. True talent like Tsonga, Nole, Fed, Murray and injured Darcis don't need the stars too align for them

Then he whines to the ATP about WTF courts, as if it is their fault he is shit on those courts.

With clay he's said many times he prefers fast conditions. Hot conditions with faster clay and high bounce is the best for him. Ultra slow clay is not his favourite...

With hardcourts the best for him is IW - dry conditions, slow but very high bouncing.

Fair enough Woodbridge, it might help Stosur, but what sure doesn't help her is saying that it helps her.
