It's hard for anyone to admit that they are declining, let alone professional sports players.

Plus the media forces any player over 30 to talk about retirement and getting older, which is mad uncomfortable to talk about. They understand they are declining but don't want the media exploding and making stupid claims.

Better he says something positive than negative.

If you have an issue with a report/infraction, a user, a moderator or just want to talk, PM me.

I support Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, David Ferrer, Del Potro.

Why? Because I love tennis plain and simple

LOL. What do you expect him to say? I'm old and playing at 60% the level I used to play?

I'm sure that would be great for his image and his marketing...

You're butthurt because of my thread, ha..

Re: Federer: ''I'm a better player than in '04, I believe I can win the Australian Op

Federer has felt that self confidence is very important to his game. He said this many times before he won his first grand slam. I thin he sAys a lot of these things to pump up his self confidence.

There is also another aspect. I remember Billie Jean King saying that as she got older she really felt that she was a better tennis player, but the problem was that she couldn't execute as she once had. So, it was frustrating to understand tennis better and to know more what she should do and yet not have the ability to pull it off consistently. Maybe Federer feels that he is a better player legitimately.

I also think that Federer likes to play mind games with is opponents and plant doubt in them.

Good plan. I am also declaring in advance that all ATP players that are healthy today can not use any kind of injury excuse whatsoever for the duration of 2014. Even if (god forbid) they're hit by a train. If they feel good today, then that's their form for the rest of next year. Nothing can possibly happen to change that.

He isn't making this up, I trust his judgement. It wouldn't make sense to specifically say he is playing better when he could just say he's at the same level or something like ''I can still be a contender when I play my best''.
you are clearly obsessed smitten. This is just for this year:

Re: Federer: ''I'm a better player than in '04, I believe I can win the Australian Op

What Fed haters can't begin to wrap their heads around is the pain of having been the greatest ever and then beginning to lose your powers. Federer, the rightful god of tennis for all eternity, has been dragged from Olympus to suffer among mortals. A modicum of denial, delusion, or grieving is only natural.

Fed haters don't get it.

Some just live in a gray world of monotony, enthralled by doltish tennis, unable to understand beauty and light. They could never see his greatness.

Others have some grasp of the scope of his gift, but are slaves to bitterness, resentment, hate, and anger. They feel only schadenfreude, and cannot grasp why anyone would feel genuine sadness over Federer's decline - or why Federer himself would struggle to understand the gravity of what has been stolen from him.

Long story short, Federer is the Prometheus of tennis, and unfeeling predators like Kiedis are the eagles who peck and bite his chained body.

jajaja , but many people here must have a low IQ if they think than federer really think that he is better now than in 2004.

a professional player with champion spirit would never say that he is finished or something like that.

the same federer said than novak was right when he said that his movement is worst than before.

hadouken what a tard!!! with strong competition was the second most older nº1 behind agassi and the man more older to win wimbledon since 1960
