I think the current state of the top of men's tennis is confusing people as to when athletic peak is.
Djokovic was 23 when he had his god mode 2011 season. Since then he has actually declined a bit. Not noticeably, but it should become noticeable soon. Dimitrov, Nishikori, and Raonic are all 23-24. They only have a few years left before they are past their best. They aren't going to get much better. Dolgopolov and Gulbis are both 25.
Such a good point. Federer, Nadal and Djojovic all played their best stuff in their early 20s. Infact how many slams had Fed and Nadal won by the time they were Dimitrov's age? Guessing it must be half a dozen each at least.
They are/were still the best players in the world in their late 20s but that's just because they are so damn good.
So Is the current generation of young to mid 20 somethings really hopeless or are Federer, Nadal and Djokovic just so good that they will forever stand out as being better than future generations?
