Shanghai court looks OK from what I've seen. Comparable to Dubai or Cincinnati from my first glimpses.

Shanghai is decoturf no? Beijing and Tokyo i think were too, so basically they should be have all similar speed- difference should be in balls and weather, but Dubai and Cinci are faster- they are Decoturf 2 i think.

Re: "Speed up the courts and general court speed Thread"

yeah, watching some play now and i'd definitely say this is decent speed. the balls especially seem to be travelling pretty quickly.

amazing how slow the US Open has become by comparison.

It's only Ashe that's slow and it's not hard to work out why.

Raonic said in an interview Shanghai/Tokyo surfaces are the same speed, but the balls are faster in Shanghai. That's pretty similar to what Nadal and Murray said last year too - there was quite a bit of talk about how quick the Heads were playing (and in Dubai too).

That´s explains speed guns, comparing to Tokyo both John and Milos alredy in 1st match i watch had pretty good numbers of big serves - i mean KPH.

Shanghai, as well as Tokyo and Beijing, are DecoTurf. But not all DecoTurf courts have the same pace, just think about Arthur Asher Stadium and other USO courts. You can adjust the speed with sand, and of course with balls. And weather affects, too.

The only logical reason he can state is the weather. They weren't even using those abnormal balls back then.

As for the Shanghai court, looks super fast compared to most super fast hard courts the Mafioso talks about.

Re: "Speed up the courts and general court speed Thread"

monaco winning an indoor event is the ultimate proof that surfaces have been disgustingly slowed down beyond recognition

at least players like correjta and moya in the 90s knew how to play on hard court, and very well too

this clay court grinder would be cannon fodder for the likes of guga and muster, much like he is for nadal right now

the only difference would be that he would be restricted to clay courts with his bland game

Well, as of yet he hasn't tried to give any reason, I don't see what it would be but I suppose he might still surprise us. Unless he has given up but is reluctant to admit it. Admitting you're wrong is somewhat of an unusual incident in here. Me, I'm regularly wrong about something and not afraid to admit it. If he still thinks I'm wrong here, he still got time to tell us why.

Good to see Shanghai is fast. I was hoping it would be.

Wouldn't it be a better question that why he thinks RG was slower in 99?
