Make it outdoor clay, maybe the almighty will be happy then.

Re: Nadal: Playing the Masters Cup every year on indoor hard is not fair

I like Nadal a lot. I respect Roger, Novak and Andy but out of the four, definitely my support goes to Rafa. Still, while Rafa says a lot of wise things and is generally very fair, this time I do have to disagree with him.

It is good that we have different surfaces. We have slams on outdoor hard, clay and grass. To me indoor tennis is another surface altogether as it presents entirely different conditions for the players. We are never going to have an Indoor Slam as it would be pretty much impossible to create a site that could accomodate an event as big as a Grand Slam with all the courts indoors. The logistics of an Indoor Slam simply make it impossible. But indoor tennis is a very important measure of a player's abilities just as hard, clay and grass are. And it is right that there should be a very big event indoors where the players can show who is the best on that surface. As there isn't ever going to be a Slam indoors, having the YEC indoors is the next best thing.

The one thing I would add to that though, as obvious as it should be, is that with the YEC being indoors it doesn't reflect who is the best player in the world, it should reflect who the best indoor player in the world is, just as RG reflects who is the best clay court player and Wimbledon reflects who is the best grass court player. But there is nothing wrong with having a tournament at the end of the year which tells us who is currently the best player in the world indoors.

I support......

You can say with the same success that it is not fair to not to have an indoor slam.
Maybe get rid of indoors like of carpet, Rafa??

Neither is covering basically the entire tour with courts where the ball routinely bounces up to shoulder height unless they're giants like JMDP.

What most people dont see is that USO surface now is same as clay .

Super slow with high bounce.

It was crazy for me when I first saw that Wawrinka is retrieving Djokovic 2nd serve not near baseline, but 3 meters behind. Same is Nadal doing.

Hard courts should be fast and low bouncing not slow and high bouncing as clay.
You've really lost it man.

Re: Nadal: Playing the Masters Cup every year on indoor hard is not fair

Did he really said that?

That's strange and disappointing.

IMO one Slam could be indoors or on carpet... or at least the Masters should be on carpet instead of indoor hardcourt.

The Year End has always been indoors, and it should stay like that.

Yes of course! That's because of the rackets and high bounces. Great kick serve and that's it!
STILL it's not that important since you can see Isner or Janowicz losing early.

Re: Nadal: Playing the Masters Cup every year on indoor hard is not fair

Leave it as it is. Nadal is unbeatable on hardcourts anyway

He's dead right, though. Hardcourt dominating 4 of the 6 big events in tennis is nauseating. Yet Federesians have the audacity to say clay 'skewed' the H2H with Rafa, what about all the hardcourt events skewing his title counts/#1 years??

Re: Nadal: Playing the Masters Cup every year on indoor hard is not fair

let's not be silly,
obviously at the core it is a bit UNFAIR that a World Tour Final (which is supposed to represent the culmination of the whole season) is ALWAYS on indoor court when there are hardly any indoor courts left
I have nothing wrong with indoor or the tournament being indoor even the majority of the time, but for it to never be regular outdoor HC or any other surface seems a bit silly
I can't think of another sport where the final tournament of the year, the climax of a sporting season, was so skewed as far as the style of surface for players.
obviously Nadal is not HORRIBLE on indoor so I believe he will probably manage to win the WTF at some point but I definitely see his argument that maybe they should alternate the surface
it is misleading, for example if they had the Masters Cup as clay court surface all the time it would be similarly unfair. they should alternate.
