To all the people who think Gaudio's a top 10 player...

Gaudio attempts the stupidest shot in the history of tennis.

Source: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/ten...ory?id=2025518

Midway through the second set, it became clear Gaudio was spent and his judgment impaired. The Argentine tried an acrobatic shot between his legs and dumped the ball into the net to fall behind 4-2.

"It's an odd shot to play in that situation," Agassi said.

"I did it because I wanted to," Gaudio said. "If I make it, everyone says, 'What a star.' If I don't, they say, "What a jerk.' "

My thoughts are this guy is the world's top ranked idiot. Top 10 player never ever ever. To those guys who berated me for saying this guy has no business in the top 10, what do you say to that?!!!!

The only person saying "what a jerk" is himself. His worst enemy is Gaston Gaudio

Re: To all the people who think Gaudio's a top 10 player...

What can I say? He did it; it's over.

However, I thought for sure Agassi was finished in that point. Gaudio ran up to the ball and had ample time to do something.

If you ask me, while Gaudio has a VERY nice backhand, he's not really a Top 10 player. He's more Top 32. Poor Coria...

Though the situation was different, Federer did the same thing on Match Point against Safin in the AO. He went on to lose the match, whereas he had the ability to turn around and attempt a decent shot to win the match, or at least give himself a shot at winning the point. So shut up, Gaudio deserves his rank, and has the talent to do well on surfaces other than clay.

Re: To all the people who think Gaudio's a top 10 player...

Rubbish. Another poster who keeps having nightmares about the RG final, it seems. Playing daft shots at important moments is hardly a new phenomenon for Gaudio, as those who have followed a lot of his matches will know. Much worse in my opinion was the ridiculously chosen and abysmally played dropshot at 7-7 in the tiebreak that cost him the first set. But strangely enough, I don't consider the only deserving Top 10 players to be those who don't play stupid shots at times. Every player in the current Top 10 has played a howler at some stage in his career, it's just that they weren't on so big a stage. And Gaudio has made that shot this year, he did it against Hrbaty at the AO in the second set and won the point.

It doesn't matter how much you carry on whining about his poor mentality, or his bad shot selection, or his inability to win matches off clay, or his long hair, or his blue socks, or his crooked tooth - it won't change the fact that he is RG champion, and it won't change the fact that he thoroughly deserves to be the no. 1 Argentinian player in the world.

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Yes, you're right, those dirt-balling clay-court specialist grinders should have their own tour and ranking, so the noble fast-courters could play their beautiful, well-balanced game in peace.

You deserve whatever ranking you achieve, as long as you haven't found a way to buy points at a supermarket.

And I suppose that's why the vbet line on Gaudio was similiar to that of what a qualifier's would be against Agassi.

The spaniards grind so much they should quit tennis and work in a mill.

Who the hell cares about the betting stakes? The bookies had Roddick winning Wimbledon 03 easily, and said he was going to romp Federer.

Oh believe me, I felt like slapping him on many occasions - that point, the hotdog at 3-2 in the second, the game he played when he had the break at 4-3, which included another stupid dropshot miles wide and a terrible low forehand into the net... Gaudio has the ability to stay in rallies with Agassi and hurt him with the backhand, but on hard he doesn't quite have the power and the cheap points needed to overwhelm the American. Pushing him to an 85-minute first set was a hell of an achievement but he had to win it, especially after saving all those setpoints earlier in the tiebreak.

Good to see Universe Man laying his credentials out with that last post, I feel free of any obligation to take him seriously now.

If you think that the clay-specialist players should have their own tour or that the clay is bad for the development of the game, you don't know nothing about tennis.

A post that deserves to be on MTF Hall of Fame soon:

You need to add a smiley to the end of Aphex's post there. Honestly, he is not supporting Universe Man one bit.
