I think his back is awful since AO and in Hamburg he could not bend . If he is not healthy and plays such a long time with bad back it can get worse. I just do not see how he can play great with bad back for a long time.

I just felt like, you know what, I’m going to play with the old racquet through the US Open right now, and I’m going to do more racquet testing when I have, again, some more time after the US Open.

Yeah, I was playing for a month with the black one, but it’s a prototype. At the end, I just felt like, you know what, right now I feel like I need to simplify everything and just play with what I know best.

I have too many things on my plate right now. So I just said, I want to definitely do my racquet testing and play more with the prototype, but right now I just wanted it to be about forehands and backhands and nothing else.

Here is the link to a great, detailed article written on the racquets Federer used till now. This article was written by peRFect-Tennis.

I hope this will lessen the confusions a little.

Re: Federer back to 90 inches racquet

I thought he might go back to his old raquet. Obviously the losses in Gstaad and Hamburg were partially due to back pain but the raquet might have something to do with it. I hope he uses whatever he feels the most comfortable with.

Re: Federer back to 90 inches racquet

Great move imo. Just stick to what he's more comfortable with. With the back issues and all the early losses no need to add more difficulty to his game.

I think it would be better for him to play for the rest of the year with the old racket. During the off season he could train with the new one and play Brisbane with it. Then he would either commit to the new one and play with it or maintain the old one and play with that one for the rest of his career.
