Very special match.

Oliver Rochus was his doubles partner when they were juniors.

They won Wimbledon together, didn't they?

In the first set Ollie fought through 5 set points. :yeah:

A great player, he had a very good USO 04 and AO 05.

Miami (BBC) - World number one Roger Federer required 71 minutes to book his place in the third round of the Nasdaq-100 Open with a 6-3 6-1 win over Olivier Rochus
.
Federer powered 12 aces to brush aside the diminutive Belgian, who beat the tour's tallest player, Ivo Karlovic, in the opening round.

The Swiss will play Mariano Zabaleta in the next round.

Elsewhere, 10th seed Joachim Johansson was beaten in straight sets by unseeded American Jeff Morrison.

Nicolas Kiefer lost out in the all-German clash, beaten comfortably 6-4 6-2 by Florian Meyer.

Victor Hanescu took the opening set with ease against Taylor Dent but had to concede the match through injury whilst trailing 4-0 in the decider.

Last year's runner-up Guillermo Coria safely negotiated his opening match against Davide Sanguinetti, beating the Italian 6-1 6-4.

Argentina's Coria had to retire from last year's final against Andy Roddick with back pains caused by kidney stones.

Roddick retired from the tournament on Friday with a wrist injury.

I hope you don't get banned for posting this thread. :scared:

Anyway, that match looked good for Federer from its stats, a bunch of winners, not too many UEs and a good serve. Zabaleta is definitely more dangerous and Roger has to set his eyes wide open. Good luck, Ninja!

Hm, and his new outfit looks good too, though I prefer the ones he was using. I hope there are different colors.

Wow he beat Rochus, this is not a special match, it was a victory to Fed which is very rare these days.

Oh please!

I just woke up from the hangover I got after the party celebrating Federer's win over Ulihrach.

were basketball fans this ungrateful when Michael Jordan ruled?

TC, considering I am a Federer fan, there is only so much toadiness one can tolerate, and I think hrbatyfan feels the same.

yes but why blame that on Fed?

In Wimbledon Final

Olivier Rochus / Roger Federer

defeated

Michael Llodra / Andy Ram

6-4, 6-4

Olivier was No. 11 in Juniors

No. 16 in doubles.

I am not blaming it on Fed at all. I mean it's over the top and there seems to be just another excuse to start a thread, when he wins a match. I started one taking the piss out of these posters and will need to bump it again, then there is one talking about his game on clay which was a constructive discussion, not just an excuse to gloat.

Well, hopefully the title of this thread will be changed and this same thread will be used for his next match, and so on. We absolutely don't need a new one each time he wins (and I am a Fed fan). It's not news when he wins unless its a final, its news when he loses...

If it's a huge upset then that would be expected, but I can see your point.

I absolutely one hundred percent agree with this statement. Since Miami began there have only been two men's matches that needed a thread in GM, the Morrison upset of Joachim and the first match that Flip won (because it had been so long). Other than that, they were all a waste of space and they really should be moved to the tournament forum now.

Until Oscar Hernandez defeats Federer in the Wimbledon semis, I don't want to see another one of these threads.
That's right Oscar the Wimbledon champ, you know it makes sense.

We could use this idea for every player, Fee!

Very good idea.

And the Clement match too! Ok, ok... and Roger!

Everyone staarts a thread for their favorite player, Lee
'Everyone' bought a Milli Vanilli album too, at one point in time (and how many of them will admit to it now?). 'Everyone does it' has never been a good reason to do anything. I know some people will get mad at those of us who harp on this topic, but individual match threads push some interesting discussion threads to the back pages and it is a shame.

I agree. That's why I don't create new threads. I make back-handed compliments in other people's threads. :wavey:

There have been many upsets and unthinkable injuries already in this tournament and the creation of unnecessary threads drags down the ones that actually contain useful information to the tournament.

I think it should be time to use the Feedback and Suggestions section.
