Montreal R1: Gulbis def. Lopez 7-6(7-4), 6-4

Ernests hit 4 double faults in his second service game to get broken an you thought it was going to be ugly but that was the only real horrific moment. He played better than he has recently and he did get past that 2nd service game pretty easily

Gulbis looked good from the tiebreak onwards. Flopez was average

That 4 DFs service game was disgusting. In the end it was good enough from Gulbis. Overall wasn't a bad match, there were some really nice points here and there.

Really good performance from Gulbis, Lopez wasn't on his greatest form but Ernests took him down fairly simply in the end. Could this be his goat tournament performance of the year.

His interview afterwards on court with Arash Madani was hilarious.

Some fun quotes afterwards.

“You haven't been watching my matches, that was nothing. I was as calm as... as you."--Gulbis to the interviewer, on his histrionics today...

"If I didn't think I'd make the top 10, I'd stop playing tennis."

Well you know, you can start by winning this tournament, that may put you inside the top 20

Players I support for non-tennis reasons: Murray/Ferrer/Monaco/Nadal/Isner/Li

del Potro/Nalbandian/Safin
Tsonga/Gulbis/Monfils/Dolgopolov/Verdasco
Davydenko/Kyrgios/Cilic/Muguruza

Good victory, Ernie!

Fognini/Baghdatis next, a winnable match.

If winning the event wouldn't actually put him in the top 10 after the improved year he's had plus 1000 points from an MS, then the ranking system is simply corrupt.
