Anyway - congrats Ernie, Lopez was average but it was still a fairly easy win
He was asked what his expectations are the next few weeks and he said "win here, win Cincinnati, win the US Open." And he was remarking about the match saying that they were pushing the ball around. It was humourous.

Gulbis always beat these pushers like Lopez.

But his forehand...

Always good when Gulbis manages to win

That's nonsense. Gulbis has gone beyond the round of 16 at exactly 1 tournament this year, and that was a 250 (Delray beach). His season is good for his standards but still very mediocre, to the point where winning a Masters 1000 wouldn't and shouldn't make him top 10.

Gulbis fans not only overrate his potential, they also overrate his previous performances

That said, he would be most likely top 15 if he won Montreal (not happening of course).

No if he won this tournament he'd deserve top 10 for sure. Yet he wouldn't be in it despite an Indian Wells 4th round, a 250 title and other quarter-finals, while Monaco made it simply by vulturing. Rankings are an absolute farce.

Solid win for a better and more talented player. Keep it up Ernest!

I love Ernests. He's quite a character and when he plays well, he's great fun to watch. Hope he gets a bit further into this tournament and the next. He's the most entertaining player around for sure.

He's 29 in the rankings and 28 in the race on top of winning a title. Isn't that quite good by Lopez' standards?

Rankings are a farce because players you don't like sometimes do better than players you like?

Gulbis has made QF or better a grand total of 1 (one) tournament this year, and that was only a 250 (granted he won it). What would be a farce is if you could be top 10 making 2 QF or better in the whole year (perhaps winning a slam excepted).

Anyway, this is a rhetorical discussion as Gulbis has shown absolutely no results that would make him even an outside candidate for the title at Montreal.

This just doesn't make sense. Monaco did better in every sense last year, except winning a Masters Series (which Gulbis isn't winning either).

Well done Ernie
If it happens, the match between him and Fog should be really fun.
