Hewitt: I can't beat Fed. Time for a real No. 2 player

From the AP news article on his IW finals defeat:

Hewitt said both his big toes began hurting the previous night, when he beat Andy Roddick in a grueling semifinal that went three sets and three tiebreakers. Guess he caught Agassi's disease

``I probably wouldn't have won anyway,'' Hewitt said of the final. ``But I wasn't moving 100 percent.''

Great. Marat please keep OAF away and get into a finals with Fed. You're the only hope so far!

so I guess that's his excuse. I don't know what's wrong with Hewitt, but his heart was nowhere to be found today. He looked lackluster throughout the match, so okay, maybe it was his toes, but mostly it was mental. During the offseason, all he talked about was beating Fed and how he can do it and such. Now, when he actually meets Fed, he doesn't believe in himself.

yeah...pretty defeatist from hewitt. He knew he was gonna lose...esp saying that he has nothing to lose against roger before the match...of course he has something to lose.

There isnt anyone else who deserves to be #2. Certainly not Marat. Marat may be unbeatable on his day, but when that day doesnt come too often, it doesnt say too much, does it?

Now that's what I call going toe-to-toe...

Does it have to be another Top 4 player? Nalbandian, where are you?

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Did anyone else notice that Lleyton's "C'moooon!"s were few and far between during his SF and F matches? And no lawnmower rip either, although we did get the vicht.

I think after all the public criticism about his behavior at AO he decided to tone it down a bit.

I kind of like the lawnmower rip though.

Congrats to Andy Roddick, 2017 Hall of Fame!

yes i love the lawnmower rip. esp when he does it against andy. It def spices the match up, against another already intense guy.

Well he certainly received the most blown calls in that match so he got the help he needed despite this toe problem.

Very well said, for a while I never really cared much about Hewitt. I think his mainly defensive type of play put me off. However seeing him play more and more, I really admire the determination, and heart. You cant just take that away from him. He doesnt have the big weapons like Fed, Safin or Roddick. He is for certain the male version of Demntieva with a better serve. As for Roddick, he is Hewitt and Feds biatch, and he always plays consistently. He needs to change a lot of things in his game if he is going to break back into the top 2. Safin he is a great player a lot of potential, but he needs to be more consistent and have more heart and determintaion. As for Roger, even on a day when he is off you still see that subtle look of 'I want to win' and plus all of his other talents make him an amazing #1 player.

My great tennis loves-Roger Federer, Paul Henry Mathieu and Marat Safin

hewitt s*ck#, get me outback jack!
just kiddin' .although it is really not nice to see thee world no.2 far from the world no1 and no4.

Marat: Last question: what do you think of me? Dinara: You are my god! When you play, I love
to see you. When you lose, I am even sadder than when it is me. When you are wounded, I suffer.
When you speak to me, I drink your words. When you come to see me playing, I am with the angels.

Re: Hewitt: I can't beat Fed. Time for a real No. 2 player

So that was his problem. People sitting courtside today were mentioning that Hewitt just didn't seem as sharp as he did against Roddick.

Anyawy, Federer was just toying with Hewitt today. I had the feeling he didn't want to beat him 2, 2, 2 because he wanted the fans to have more of a show.

Best thing about seeing Federer play this weeks were my silly seatmates who were making crazy bets on how many games his oponents would win.

Marat's the only player good enough to compete with Fed.
