Federer/Ljubicic ..... the new Roddick Kiefer?

Last year Andy played Kiefer 3 times in a matter of what 2 months during the summer HC. We've barely started this year, and Fed/Ivan played 3 times already, and are slated for a r16 showdown at IW. For Ivan's sake, I hope after this event, he's far far away from Roger as possible, poor dude.

Re: Federer/Ljubicic ..... the new Roddick Kiefer?

Does anyone see a similarity with Naldo's question as in 2004 with Federer and Pavel. Pavel was playing very good tennis, but always ran into Roger.

They played in
2004 Davis Cup
2004 Dubai
2004 Rotterdam
2004 Indian Wells

Then they haven't played since.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Ack, maybe IW is the tournament that breaks the curse. I completely forgot about Roger/Pavel playing week-in week-out early in 04, thanks for bringing that up.

Not a problem Naldo. Your question was a very good one and I remembered that as I like both players and know Pavel was just getting frustrated seeing Federer in his section of the draw.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Federer/Ljubicic ..... the new Roddick Kiefer?

I know Guillermo Coria and Feliciano Lopez met 5 times in 2003 with the first one being the Stuttgart outdoor, then Kitzbhuel, Montreal, Basel and Paris.

Lopez only won a match, because Coria had to default.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

You've got to assume Clement is happy he most likely won't face Hewitt in Indian Wells, provided he qualifies!

Andy/Kiefer played 3 matches in 3 weeks (roughly 10 days from start to finish): Indianapolis F, Toronto SF, Cinncinnati 2R.

Andy/Hyung-Taik Lee were almost the new Andy/Kiefer (2 weeks in a row: San Jose R1, Memphis R2--six days from start to finish) but alas, Lee is the other half of the IW draw.

I feel like Haas/Malisse/Miryni are playing each other every week, and sure enough, Malisse/Miryni are playing 1R Indian Wells.

If Roger/Ivan play in 4th round..should be a good match...Ivan watchs alot of tape from matchs before..hopefully he can picked up few things on Rogers game and his own.

Re: Federer/Ljubicic ..... the new Roddick Kiefer?

The Ljubicic fans can only hope that Ljubicic doesn't end like Pavel after running into Federer so many times at the beginning of 2004. Then since April/May, Pavel hardly could get deep in draws of any tournaments (and still is struggling), but he played good tennis before.

López has also declared Coria is his worst nightmare, only chance for López to beat him is if Coria gets injured.

Re: Federer/Ljubicic ..... the new Roddick Kiefer?

I think Ivan's game is deadlier than Andrei's and he can live better with Federer than Andrei could last year. Remember, all the Federer-Pavel encounters in early 2004 were straight sets affairs. He has a bigger game and more solid mental fortitude than Andrei so I don't think he will be too discouraged even if he does play Roger again and loses to him.

It's not only Pavel. Every player who runs into Federer multiple times is screwed these days. They all ended up with a horrible H to H against The Fed.

I think you misunderstood me or I didn't make it clear enough in my post. I didn't intend saying or blaming Pavel for his losses against Federer.

I wanted more to say that I hope Ljubicic doesn't end like Pavel last year: playing his best tennis at the beginning of the season, running into Federer so many times (getting no reward for his good tennis = no titles) and then for the rest of the year (since April/May) his form dropped remarkably and maybe he ran out of power towards the end, too.

So it's going to be interesting to see whether Ljubicic can (approximately) hold his current high level for longer time than Pavel was able to do.

Re: Federer/Ljubicic ..... the new Roddick Kiefer?

Pavel was also supposed to play Roger last year in the 4th round at the US Open, but pulled out beforehand with back problems. At the time I wondered if he would have tried to play that round if he had had a different opponent.

I'm pissed that they're on the same side of the draw...i just don't get it.

'I'd like to be in his shoes for one day,' says Mats Wilander, 'to know what it feels like to play that way.'
