Yea..... Sampras was just going or the record. And he didn't try hard in all of them. He basically quit the French after '96 ( As his blood disorder caused him fatigue) so he focused primarily on the Wimbledon/USO.

His goal was 13. If the Goal was 20 he would have surpassed that to if he put his mind to it.

Its all about having a Goal number in front of you and something to shoot for

However, since the strength of the tour was diluted due to the split between amateur and pro tours, there was another factor of 1/2 attached to each slam in that era. Imagine how many slams Federer would win if Nadal had played in a different tour.

There is no "would have" in the record books.

Emerson is way down sharing the 21st place in the list. He is not in any GOAT discussion.

Why is Rosewall so far down the list? He has 23-25 majors

yeah, like federer aiming for 19 because the all time record before that was 18 (which he owned)

and when he had 17 he aimed for 18 (which he owned)

and when he had 16 he aimed for 17 (which he owned)

and when he had 15 he was the undisputed GOAT.

he keeps aiming to beat his own records (not sure if you've noticed, but sampras doesn't really have any that federer hasn't already beaten FYI), which is like you said. it's always good to have a number in front of you. sampras needed to beat others, federer needs to beat his own since he beat everyone else's back in 2009.

Rosewall is not far down the list, he is #2 with 16.33 adjusted slams.

He has 23 slams (15 Pro slams). Here is the calculation of adjusted slams for Rosewall:

Ken Rosewall won the equivalent of 16.33 Slams:
1. 4 Amateur Slams in 1953-56 -> 4*(1/2) = 2 Real Slams
2. 1 Pro Slam in 1957 when 2 Pro slams were played -> 1*(1/2)*(4/2) = 1 Real Slam
3. 14 Pro Slams in 1958-66 when 3 Pro slams were played -> 14*(1/2)*(4/3) = 9.33 Real Slams
4. 4 in Open Era -> 4 Real Slams.

Hes gotta keep Nadal off his rear. If he took care of business YEARS AGO vs. Nadal/Nole (Like he should have) he could have retired years ago with everything in tact. Pete kept his rivals at bay keeping them on single digits.

I don't think I have ever read anything more idiotic. Sampras tried to win every match he played, on clay he simply sucked and he was never going to win RG. If he had had the goal of 20 slams, he still wouldn't have won more than 14 slams. Now quit your trolling, you imbecile.
