Hass at number 11? *shakes her head at Tommy*

David is on the cusp - come on, start the season well and break the top ten before Wimbledon (when you defend a third of your points )

Ferrero defends next to nothing untill Monte Carlo.

Hewitt and Agassi defend nothing at the Australian Open.

Marat will struggle to hold his ranking, or rise it above those three, unless he wins the aussie. Even then...

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Thank you for posting the rankings. I haven't bothered to look for them yet.

YES! Arnaud Di Pasquale finished the year in the top 100 after all, which is a great achievement, since he was ranked around 350 in April and had to qualify for small challengers like Ljubljana. Congrats to him.

Congrats to Ferrero as well for finishing the year on such a good note and reaching #4. Unlike Safin, he has nothing to defend come the Australian Open. But Marat did improve his points by almost 1000, which however is nothing compared to Moya, who really had a fantastic year considering his previous form and rankings. It's great to see him back at the top where he belongs. Novak also had an outstanding year in terms of consistency which earned him a place in the top 8. Well done.

As for disappointments, the major drop in points happened to one of the sweetest and most popular players on the tour, Guga, which is very sad indeed. But he will have ample opportunities to climb back to where he belongs next year, if he remains healthy. And the other one is Yevgeny. It's bizarre to see him down to 27 after he spent most of the year (the first half anyway) in the top 3. For me personally, the greatest disappointment was Grosjean, who dropped 1150 points. He had flashes of brilliance but was too inconsistent. I wish him a brilliant year in 2003.

What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

Injuries aside, I think we'll see Guga in the top ten again next year

Maybe he can even win the US Open (but leave the French alone, share in the wealth, share in the wealth!)

Grosjean spent sections of this year injured. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him.

I might also point out that Ferrero is the first spaniard since Brugera to finish consecutive years in the top 5. Here is to a healthy injury free season in 2003, do it again!

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Carlos has nothing really to defend until Monte Carlo

I'm sure we'll see more ups and downs from Marat in 2003 (hopefully more ups)

Misha should be seeded for AUS OPEN too now

One thing i don't get is how Krajicek has 14 tourns , he had 12 when he appeared on ranks (his 1st tourn for 20 months)

Wow Rosset still under top 100!! So he got his goal not having to qualify for AO!!

Little disapointment for Kratochvil, Bastl, and Heuberger who all dropped in the rankings.

And of course Roger top swiss (Still a bit sad as he had heaps of chances to finish even better....)

All of my boys, with the exception of 1, have improved on their 2001 seasons

Juan Carlos only moved 1 spot from last year's year-end rankings to this year's, but what a hard-fought battle especially after being injured for almost the entire first half of the year. Bravo!! His game and his record on all surfaces has improved, and he has a winning record on all the different surfaces this year

James Blake made a huge leap, not only in the rankings but in his game. He finished 2001 at #74, and this year he's sitting pretty in the Top 30 for the first time, at #28 He also won his first singles and doubles titles and challenged for two more. I really am looking forward to seeing his improvement next year. I especially hope for good things during the summer

My favorite Finn continues to improve by leaps and bounds Jarkko Nieminen, though ranked a little higher during the summer when he played tour-level events for the first time, jumps from #61 (the first Finn to finish in the Top 100 in ten years) last year to #40. As I said, he had stints in the mid-30s, on the strength of his many challenger wins last year that allowed him to have direct entry into main draws this year. I am especially looking forward to seeing him battle it out on the clay, as his first big points to defend are coming up before Roland Garros.

Michel Kratochvil is my lone disappointment, dropping from #46 to #69. He had some huge wins this year but was unable to defend his points after the US Open, where he had previously reached two finals. Plus he was sick all during Basel And, his first points to defend are semifinals at Auckland, so I hope a nice long rest and some fun in the snow in Switzerland will bring him back to the game with a fresh mentality. He's looking to be a bit of a late bloomer, but I believe winning that first title will help his confidence immensely.

You will be missed, Michel Kratochvil!

Guga will play Auckland a week before the Aussie, to get used to the courts and maybe try to go up to maybe get seeded. Who knows... Many players can possibly NOT play there.

And he did not at all play 19 tournaments this season.

I think they add the tourns where they have to play onto their totals which is weird

Guga missed WIMBLEDON, Indian Wells TMS, Miami TMS & Monte Carlo TMS,

Yes, they do, Eggy.

They give you the "0" but it still counts towards your total results.

I say more stupid stuff at https://twitter.com/Hurleytennis.
