Nothing new Federer and Nadal plays for money. Nadal complains about the schedule but plays tons of Exhibitions from US to Dubai.

And Nadal probably shouldn't be playing any Euro indoor 500s anyway.
Uhmmm Madrid is in Clay and is a masters 1000, why compare.

Why i think Nadal will play Basel because /Maybe/ that is the last tournament of Federer ? So they can play their last match there in Basel and Fed will retire. I have a very very sad feeling. The way he lost to Nishikori ,Tsonga,Beneteau,Nadal like he wanted to say i don't need that guys. Maybe i am wrong but i do not see him to like to fight anymore . Only in Halle he was happy and you could see it. Nadal said he wants to have a last match against Fed.Nick Bollettieri
thanks Roger for everything he done for the tennis,Tim Henman said something similar. Maybe Federer will do the same as Dementieva without any preparation and no one knew till her last match.

My point was that he already plays plenty of events in Spain. This really can't be spun as a 'Nadal doesn't care about his own people' story. The Spaniards get plenty of chances to watch him play official tour matches on their own soil even with his choice to not attend Valencia.

Agassi | Nadal
Almagro | Coria | Ferrer | Haas | Nalbandian | Nishikori | Robredo | Wawrinka
Bautista Agut | Bellucci | Blake | Dimitrov | Dodig | Ferrero | Fognini | Gasquet | Hewitt | Kohlschreiber | Murray | Raonic | Rosol | Seppi | Tsonga | Tursunov | Verdasco

Lol. didn't he threaten to ban Madrid if it doesn't change surface. If Madrid was on blue clay, Nadal will only play Barcelona. He plays those events because they are in red clay not because they are in Spain.

You can't blame Rafa for prioritizing his legacy over appeasing his Spanish fans. He simply must demolish Federer on every possible turf, even on his own home.

Better field, and better preparation in Basel compared to Valencia. It doesn't sounds like money is the deal breaker if they've been offering him financial insentive to come there anyway.

He'll be a vulture for South America. I don't think anybody can complain if he plays a home tournament.

Doesn't Djokovic play Serbian 250's?

Nadal's arms strong!

He plays Barcelona and Madrid each year and has helped the Spanish secure Davis Cup 4 times, also won an Olympic Gold. There is no need for him to play Valencia.

It's indoors. Nadal is the one who's gonna get demolished. Can't wait for 5-0 indoors

He sucks indoor anyway, if he has to play one, he should play the one that gives him more money...

And the Basel amount must have been obscene

Me too but Dull has a bad habit of running away and skipping matches or tournaments where he know he is going to lose, Halle this year, Miami semis last year,....

So don't get your hopes high. I just hope he doesn't skip the WTF, I always love watching the tournament where the best of the best play with no easy draws.

Running away from Halle?

He had played 45 matches this year when compared to Novak's 38 and Federer's 33 even after missing the Australian open.

So,it was clear that he needed some rest after playing that many matches.

Thank Rafa that he skipped Halle. If he had played it then Roger would have still been titleless this year

Really?

I think he would have made the final just to give Roger another spanking.
