Maybe. He should've won one or two more USOs by now though. It will be hard.

But he can definitely go down as the greatest AO player of all time which is already impressive.

No... one reason only: the loss at the US Open final is a disqualifier. It is one thing to lose to a superior player but to lose to a mental midget and in that fashion ... Nole as far as his level goes is the best hard court player of all time. But his stats don't show it. His mental lapses are going to keep him from achieving that. It's a shame. He is a treasure for tennis.

didn't Federer lose in the final to a guy who hasn't even won a Masters since?

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

True. he's been robbed of a couple USOs already. However, if he keeps his level up the next few years, he can easily dominate the HC slams.

That Murray loss does not look good on his record especially since the latter was hardly special in that final or the whole tournament..You really don't clown around in Slam finals, and Nole was doing that in the first two sets.He should be better than his 1-3 in US open finals record..And he actually survived 2 close shaves there in the semis vs. Federer 2010,2011..It is a long shot anyway..

Nole is still active. Let him retire and we'll judge from there. However, he seems to be really dominating AO.

He saved 2 MPs in the USO 2011, was 2 points from 2-5 in the 5th set in 2012 AO, would have lost in the 4th round if not for a compilation of mistakes in this year's AO.

Djokovic could very well have 3 less HC slams. It's true he won the AO 3 years in a row but his luck has to end sometime.

Federer lost his SIXTH USO final. He was due for a loss there. Djokovic lost his first 2 USO finals, similar to Nadal at Wimbledon. Djokovic also lost his fourth USO final.

The same can be said for multiple Wimbledon titles Roger won. Especially that 5 setter against Roddick, one of the luckiest slam final wins ever. Roger could very well have 2-3 less Grass slams. It's true he won 7 of them but his luck has to end sometime.
See what I did there?

Re: Could Djokovic go down as the greatest hard court tennis player of all time?

Maybe he could surpass Federer if slams were all that counted but they don't and Federer owns pretty much every notable record on hardcourts.

He has:

- the most WTF titles
- the most hardcourt titles overall
- the longest win streak on hardcourts
- the highest career win percentage on hardcourts

That in addition to his 9 slams is pretty much insurmountable for Djokovic in my view.

Not sure I see Djoker getting to 9 HC slams. I think he may win another couple, and a couple more YECs perhaps. If he was to win 10, and Fed win no more, he'd have a case.

If Roger had 3 slams less he would have 14. Still the most in the open era.

Roger never won a slam having to save MPs along the way.

My post was in response to the idea that Djokovic can/has dominatd the HC slams.

My point was that while he won the last 3 AOs and won the 2011 USO he could very well have not won 3 of those and as such his domination is not so clear as the #s may make you think.

If you really want to delve into the what ifs, Federer would have well over 20 Slams if not for the greatness of Nadal on clay.

yeah and nadal would already be 1 slam away from feds 17 if not for djokovic stopping him in this era . really don't like to get into what ifs though, its just spinning tires.
