Why does Nadal no longer use his USO 2010 serve

....does Nadal no longer use his USO 2010 serve?

I imagine if he did, he'd be very hard to defeat on any surface, not just clay.

RIP Henry Chinaski. A true MTF legend

It puts too much stress on his shoulder, causing injuries. He pulled out of Paris 2010 with shoulder injury after having the best serving year of his career.

Re: Why....

Because its really hard for Rafa to serve hard like that just not natural for him. Now he could go up to 120-125 which is more than he is doing now.

Stronga,Monfils,DelPo,Nalbandian,Berdych,Gulbis,Ha as and Djokovic are the players I support the most.

Now this is a topic that hasn't been discussed before

Re: Why....

It has been discussed before, but I think it's a relevant topic that deserves it's place here in GM. Great thread OP My reasons are the same as the above.

Re: Why....

That serve has been an anomaly in his career thus far. I wouldn't plan on seeing it again.

He altered his technique pretty significantly around that time, but has seemingly since gone back to the old style. I would assume it's due to discomfort, and from what his fans have said, it sounds like it went even further than that.

Re: Why....

Nadal said that that serving technique would injure him if he did it all the time. I remember reading that he said he would go back to that technique sometimes when he played Djokovic only. Am I remembering correctly?

Re: Why....

I think we all know the real answer

Only those fan girls play ignorant to the obvious

The answer is he was on a gluten free diet during the us open

And he's probably been on one since he faked his injury after rosol ass pounded him

God is Love. To know Love is to know God. So ask yourself if you hold any hate for another in your heart how can you have room for Love, room for God

Re: Why....

He's a master tactician, he pulls it out on break points and when he needs it. It's even more effective by just using it on key points.

Re: Why....

If he used it all the time, it would be unfair to other players.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

I've often wondered this myself. His serving in the 2010 US Open really was a complete outlier to the rest of his career. I believe in that tourney his first serve averaged 119mph. In his second fastest serving tourney -- and there are several of them tied for second -- he averaged 116 mph.

Him serving faster in the 2010 USO was obviously a planned strategic move. And it worked out for him, which makes me wonder why he hasn't gone back to it. If it hurts his shoulder then just use it for the US Open, or even just certain matches in the US Open.
