The media think we are important

Have you seen the "Taking Sides" section of today's Herald Sun? [Pg.3]? Apparently many of us random message board people are considered important by the media. I'm just a nobody. Why do they want to quote me? LMAO

Re: The media think we are important

Sorry, for overseas people I should show you what they printed:

" Sorry, but I really don't believe it. He was meant to marry Kim in a week."

" I highly doubt Lleyton would propose if he wasn't sure and his parents would kill him if he proposed without thinking about it"

"They are so cute togetherand, I mean who wouldn't want to be with Lleyton?"

"If it was a serious relationship, you would never show each and every step to the whole world. He never did before."

"Seems Lleyton is a little more in favour of the term rebound than he would like people to believe"

"It seems that everyone in Australia, regardless of their thoughts on Bec or Kim, think this is much too soon"

I recognise most of these as quotes from this board

Re: The media think we are important

It’s not uncommon for researchers to trawls thro message boards to grasp ppl’s over all opinions/what’s going on etc…so dont be too surprised I’ve done it myself in the past.
Or am I just reinforcing some ppl's opinions of the fact, many of the media are clueless and unable to think for themselves

Not surprised. I already knew that this was common, but it's funny and I thought that overseas people who don't have access to this newspaper deserved to know that they were quoted. I agree with you that this is evidence that the media can't think for themselves

Re: The media think we are important

Why go outside and ask the public when you can have a coffee and sit in the office and do it?

I think I remember reading about a couple of people with journalist passes for tournaments at the WTA board so maybe some members are journalists here as well.

I've seen TV station webpage news items take quotes from their website forums before as well.

No wonder 90% of tennis articles are utter crap.

I think we are often more knowledgeable about tennis than these journalists!

We should get paid for having our quotes used!

Federer: Lord of the Strings (quote borrowed from another MTF-poster)
Safin: His Royal Dork-ness
Hewitt: Mowing a lawn near you
Kuerten: tennis in the shape of a heart
Ollie Rochus: the lil'man that broke Karlovic

Re: The media think we are important

These quotes are not evidence of the media being stupid. I think it's acutally a rather good thing that some journalits go "out there" and have a look at what people think. After all, you can't just write your own opinion all the time. It's a good thing to show other people's opinions as well...

Re: The media think we are important

Hm, that's interesting...I never really would have thought they would do that. But hey, not a bad idea...most people here are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to anything tennis-related. I'm impressed, the media is finally doing something right.

Re: The media think we are important

I didnt read that Herald Sun. Did they print the quotes as if they made it up themselves, or did they pretend they went out and asked people?
