Who is the most fairplay in Open Era ?

Amongst these players, who is the most fairplay in Open Era ?

"I asked a bloke in the front row if he liked the serve-and-volley stuff," said Rafter. "He said he did but asked if he was going to get to see any rallies. 'Not today, mate,' I told him."

Which players? You didn't list them.

I'd definitely have to say Stephan Edberg. I mean, the sportsmanship award was renamed the Stephan Edberg award. He won the award 5 times. Rafter won the award 3 times and Martin won it twice, so they should both be contendors, not just Rafter.

Roger should be added to the list.
He never complains or argues a call, and his loss to Safin was a huge display of sportsmanship from both players.

Think the nicest guy gets that award. Not necessarily the most sporting. There was an incident in an Edberg Mayotte match in a tie-break where edberg could have been sporting and given the point to a deserving mayotte but he wanted to win so badly that he didn't. So, who knows...

Good call...and against safin at the masters he had an awful call against him at a crucial stage and didn't say anything

Edberg, but the choice isn't easy. Rafter a close second. How different from the awful crowd (Federer excepted) out there now.

Re: Who is the most fairplay in Open Era ?

I voted for Pat Rafter - but I think it's a very close thing between him and Edberg. And I honestly don't think the players today are so bad you know - I've often seen many of them giving away points to an opponent - Carlos Moya is a great example of a great and fair sportsman I think.

One match out of the five-plus million he played? Whatever...my vote is with Edberg.

Re: Who is the most fairplay in Open Era ?

Well, even though respecting his achievements and his game, I've never liked Edberg that much as a player... so I won't say Edberg as he was already mentioned by others... well, Rafter would make sense as well I believe... but I'll throw in two others who didn't get a mention yet, but should deserve to be named: Srichaphan and Guga.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy
