That, of course, means they ruined it and it is slow now. Still haven't forgiven Djokovic for being a part of that BS last year

Re: Nadal: Madrid red clay is 組reat'

no rafa red clay is bad, blue is good. seriously they could use the exact same surface as last year and only change the colour to red and neither djokovic or nadal complain, as last year they behaved like a bunch of divas. the surface had nothing to do with the colour obviously tennis players are dumb

The blue clay of Madrid was the highlight of the clay season in 2012. Now we are back to that ugly brown shit. Travesty for tennis.

Re: Nadal: Madrid red clay is 組reat'

rafa's english is just too good. better than madrid's clay.

ASI Director-General Gautam Sengupta said the list of India's treasures held abroad was "too long to handle" and there was a need for a "diplomatic and legal campaign" for their restitution from institutions, including the British Museum, the Royal Collection and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

Rafa will be injured after this event because he won't be winning it.

Mutua Madrid Open
Adis al azul: Madrid vuelve al ocre con tierra de Roland Garros
http://tenis.as.com/tenis/2013/05/05...html?rel=rosEP

Goodbye to blue: Madrid goes back to red with material from Roland Garros

Goodbye to the experiment with blue clay, which ended up with Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic threatening not to come back and with the ATP making Ion Tiriac back down. The red clay is back, the traditional clay. How have they managed it? For the courts at the Caja M疊ica, Madrid's main Olympic installation whose cost rocketed to almost 300 million euros, foundered on the most basic: the surface where the world's best players did not feel at all comfortable.

Nadal has tried out the Central court, where he will play starting on Wednesday, and has given his verdict: "It was in perfect condition, it's the best clay court we've had here since the Open was played on clay and that's fantastic news for the spectacle."

These days, Alberto Berasategui, who has taken over from Carlos Moy as tournament director Manolo Santana's right hand man, keeps on asking the same question: "How is it?" "Nadal's not just saying that for saying's sake. I've also asked Murray, Sharapova, Serena, Azarenka... and players who are not as high ranking.. and they all agree that the surface doesn't get torn up any more when you're defending on it, causing potholes and bad bounces," said a pleased Berasategui, finalist at Roland Garros in 1994.

But they had to start from zero "because it was the only thing lacking in a super-tournament that has nothing to envy a Grand Slam." The engineers concluded that moisture, seeping in from the watercourse that surrounds the courts, a much higher watertable than indicated and the proximity of the river Manzanares made the surface slippery.

So they bulldozed everything that was there, excavated to lay piping to channel off the moisture and brought in new materials. There is a layer of permeable volcanic rocks from Ciudad Real and a procession of trucks brought in 1800 tons of limestone from a quarry to the north of Paris which was then crushed, the same 'craon' as forms the base of the courts at Roland Garros itself, the 'sancta sanctorum' of clay." According to Berasategui: "It's the closest there is to Paris."

Furthermore, it will remain there (and not be dug up as it was in former years to allow the Caja M疊ica to be used for other purposes) because it cost a million euros and because Tiriac's company has taken over the running of the Centro Deportivo Caja M疊ica, which perhaps, at long last, will become a tennis centre.

Whatever Nadal says, no matter how sincere or blunt, MTF will trash him. It's interesting, from a psychological standpoint.

Tomic [tom-ic] [tom-ic-ing]
verb
1. apply yourself for a small period of time before giving up. (I am tomicing this match).
noun
2. play exceedingly well for a month and then give fallacious promises to the world. (He performed a Tomic)

Re: Nadal: Madrid red clay is 組reat'

OK, so they've tailored the courts to Nadal's every whim in Madrid (i.e. incredibly slow). I'll be expecting no excuses this tourney now if he loses to Djokovic.

...or the color of "Rogie's" pants when he sees Rafa on the other side of the net

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!

No more excuses now when Nole beats him. Courts are perfect and he's 100%.

You do realise that if the Madrid surface is now very close to that one in RG, that it doesn't mean "slow", right?

RG's clay does not play slow by any stretch (compared with other clay courts).

Furthermore, something that oddly seems to escape the attention of a lot of people on MTF: Nadal doesn't favor slow clay. He favors quicker clay but the condition is that the surface needs to respond very well to topspin.

The key is his topspin, not the speed of the surface.
