Re: Brennwald:"Federer refused our offer"

Federer refused the offer and is playing without an appearance fee. So what's the brouhaha about?

I thought that was what agents were for?

Did you miss the announcement from a few weeks back that Federer would be playing?

Funny, I could have sworn that it was being said on here last autumn that that was precisely what they'd done for Djokovic and Murray. I don't *think* I added a zero somewhere along the way.

What an arrogant ass this Roger Federer. Just confirmed by his condescending manner.

Re: Brennwald:"Federer refused our offer"

I was frustrated before with Roger even asking/needing an appearance fee to appear in his HOMETOWN tournament BUT

the tournament is being stupid now, whiney even, complaining that he might not be there blah blah blah. there is more to tennis than JUST Federer (Sort of) and he'll play there or he wont'

they don't need to make so much drama about it

and frankly I kind of hope Roger gives them a big 'fuck you' and goes on vacation or something that week

Was wondering the same thing. Would never have thought to use such a great word though!

Players I support for non-tennis reasons: Murray/Ferrer/Monaco/Nadal/Isner/Li

del Potro/Nalbandian/Safin
Tsonga/Gulbis/Monfils/Dolgopolov/Verdasco
Davydenko/Kyrgios/Cilic/Muguruza

This guy mentioning Roger in the same sentence as the rest of the big 4. Too good.

Federer is selfish and arrogant. That is becoming very clear as time goes by.

Re: Brennwald:"Federer refused our offer"

So the story here is that Federer wants an unusually high appearance fee for his hometown event. He's refused one offer and ignored another. And then he decided to enter without a fee. And now the tournament director feels like Federer's made him look like a bad guy by playing for nothing so he's decided to air the dirty laundry behind the scenes?

If that's all true, it just seems like business partners having their private falling out go public. Federer probably should have accepted a lower fee rather than making the owner feel like he wouldn't play if he didn't get what he wanted, but Federer IS playing, right? So the people running the tournament might have reason to be irritated at Federer for jerking them around, but in the end he didn't hold the fans hostage. He doesn't come out an angel from this, but I suspect this kind of haggling goes on all the time on tour. Top players probably turn down tournaments quite often when not enough money is on offer, but things are more personal and there are perceived obligations when it's your 'home' tournament.

Agassi | Nadal
Almagro | Coria | Ferrer | Haas | Nalbandian | Nishikori | Robredo | Wawrinka
Bautista Agut | Bellucci | Blake | Dimitrov | Dodig | Ferrero | Fognini | Gasquet | Hewitt | Kohlschreiber | Murray | Raonic | Rosol | Seppi | Tsonga | Tursunov | Verdasco
