The reality is that del Potro is easily the fourth best tennis player in the world

It's a fact. He might not have been able to hang with the current top 4 post surgery, but he's still comfortably a better player than anyone else. He's also 5-5 in his last 10 matches against said top 4 so the signs are that the gap is closing, not increasing.

Surgery/injuries have affected his relative standing in the game compared to the current top 4, but that's all. He's still better than everyone else. This has been the case ever since his return.

Discuss.

Re: The reality is than del Potro is easily the fifth best tennis player in the world

To steal from another poster:

I don't understand how anybody can think DP the 5th best player at the moment.

Points from slams and WTF: Ferrer 2920, DP 1390
Points from Masters: Ferrer 2160, DP 1520
Points from small tournaments: Ferrer 1890, DP 1840

Total points: Ferrer 6970, DP 4750

Del Potro is a vulture.

This thread should be merged. Do your crying in the thread with facts.

You should give more poll options, it's too biased.

Try adding to the poll "He's the 7th best player in the world", which is the only correct option btw.

To be the 5th best player in the world you must be the most consistent over the year and this proves that your point of Ferrer only being in the top 5 because of "Vulturing" is entirely wrong. As over the last year Ferrer has performed the best when it really mattered.

How about voting honestly? This is the real issue here: people who vote Ferrer either follow the rankigns blindly or just do it as a wind-up. Any unbiased observer can easily conclude that there are only four people in the world whose ability to play tennis exceeds Del Potro at this point in time and none of them has wings.

MTF games titles:

Suicide Tennis (5): Wimbledon 2014, World Tour Finals 2015, Madrid 2015, Kuala Lumpur 2014 and Metz 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 WTF, 1 Masters 1000, 2 ATP 250; 2 finals lost

Fill-in-the-Draw (3): US Open 2014, Rotterdam 2013 and Geneva 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 ATP 500 and 1 ATP 250

Tennis Tipping (3): Veneza and Todi 2014 (with vn01), Knoxville 2015 (with Redkop) - 3 challengers; 7 finals lost

Re: The reality is that del Potro is easily the fifth best tennis player in the world

I think I would put DelPotro ahead of ferrer, tsonga and berdych. Because he has the game and temprament to win a slam and beat top 4. Delpo when on is a joy to watch, in Indian wells he showed what he can do and i believe he is geniune contender.

The other 3 you can argue for which is better or worse depending on your own individual criteria.
1. consistency = ferrer
2. beating federer = berdych
3. pushing top 4 guys but still losing = tsonga

Go Andy!

So very very proud to be a fan of Mr Andy Murray Wimbledon Champion 2013

Double Grand slam champion. Olympic Gold Medalist. Holder of 9 Masters 1000 events # legend

If he is so good he should first rank before Ferrer, rankings dont lie, Ferrer has better result with limited game.

you are right about criteria but that applies to Delpotro too. After all he is not the most consistent.

Federer: Future number one.

Fed vs Rafa

Wimbledon: 7-2
U.s open: 5-2
AO: 4-1
FO 1-9
WTF: 6-0
Weeks at number one: 302-140(about)

Really no contest
