Bad match from Tsonga, not a good way to start the clay season despite the win. I'd like Tsonga to have a decent clay season but will be hard if he doesn't improve a lot; the effectiveness of his game suffers a lot on the surface and, as if that was not enough, he's one of those players who always seems to get tough draws.

MTF games titles:

Fill-in-the-Draw (5): US Open 2014, Rotterdam 2013, Geneva 2015, Sydney 2016 and Buenos Aires 2016 - 1 Slam, 1 ATP 500 and 3 ATP 250

Tennis Tipping (3): Veneza and Todi 2014 (with vn01), Knoxville 2015 (with Redkop) - 3 challengers; 7 finals lost

I'm really worried for Simon-Berlocq, hopefully we won't need that rubber

Need a Ferrer-Tsonga match ASAP. What a feast that would be.

RG final, please.

Even though that would be refreshing at Mickey Carlo final, too.

A brainless ball basher beating a clay specialist on clay. Bad for tennis.

Tsonga was bad and Berlocq was even worse. Apart from the 3rd set It was Berlocq gifting points left and right on easy shots.

A little part of me wants them to meet on grass, actually.
It wouldn't be as much of a beatdown as it would have been on clay, but embarrassing Clownga on grass would be just

As if Ferrer has any chance of those finals. Not to mention, as I said earlier, Tsonga is a generally unlucky player with draws and how they pan out - ie if he reaches a big final, he will not have someone like Ferrer waiting to bend over.

Re: WG QF: Tsonga def. Berlocq 4-6 6-2 6-3 5-7 6-2 (FRA 1-0 ARG)

I find Tsonga so uncompelling to watch these days, he's just too much of an extreme, so hot and cold, one moment playing dynamite awesome tennis, the next throwing stupid errors everywhere like his brain was launched into space temporarily

I don't like the term THAT much, but he is such a ballbasher, and I think it loses its entertainment when a player is so erratic
struggling against Berlocq (who don't get me wrong has been playing very well so far this season) and a total headcase against the top ranked players

I fear that Tsonga will never even make a slam final again...

maybe he should grow the afro back out like 2008

Well possible. But not only because of inconcistency but also because of surface homogenization. On a fast surface, there aren't many players ahead of peak Tsonga. But unfortunately not even Wimbledon is fast at the time of semis.

I posted here one day how bad an indoor player Nadal is compared to e.g. Tsonga, titles 1-7. Yeah, I admit that was a bit provocative but when a worse fast surface player wins CGS, a better fast surface player should definitely have more than one GS final if only there are fast surfaces in slams. But there aren't.

Carlie grunted at least a second after he made contact with the ball in that last game and then Tsonga dumped an overhead into the net. Was some funny shit.
