Does Federer hold the record for the most profound wins?

He certainly holds the unofficial title of "GOAT" backed up by his mind blowing records.

But at the same time I feel he's won more important matches than any other player, matches that he could have lost but have actually won.

Let's see,

1 - Rome 2001 R32 def. Marat Safin 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5)
2 - Wimbledon 2001 R16 def. Pete Sampras 7-6(7), 5-7, 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-5
3 - Rotterdam 2005 F def. Ivan Ljubicic 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(5)
4 - Miami 2005 F def. Rafael Nadal 2-6, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-1
5 - Wimbledon 2009 def. Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6(6), 7-6(5), 3-6, 16-14

Re: Does Federer hold the record for the most profound wins?

Roger has back injury.

no?

Nadal "Sampras, Ivanisevic match. or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable. It's not really tennis. it is a few swings of the racquet. For me in the past it was just serve. serve". arrogance.

clay excluded. successive win 0. If grass and a hard are fast. Like Sampras era. Nadal is able to win only with clay. power of defense and muscles. boring ugly. All the surface is slow now.

fake time-out. cheat. gamesmanship. too noisy annoying always. excuse. boycotts threatened. always dissatisfaction cry complaints. dissatisfaction to schedule. selfish two-year ranking. bump to player. ugly protest. always exaggerated appeal of self condition. etc. overrated by fanatic arrogant blind fan

Without doing any research at all I'd imagine the correct answer will be Nadal. No one comes close to his relentless, grinding determination in big matches.

Re: Does Federer hold the record for the most profound wins?

Look at the ones he's lost though:
Wimbledon 08 Final (BP to serve for match in 5th)
Australian Open 09 Final (Choked 3rd set in hilarious fashion)
US Open 09 Final (Served for 2nd set and led 30-0)
US Open 10 SF (As well as Djokovic played on the match points, he didn't take them on)
US Open 11 SF (How he lost this is still beyond belief)

Yes he won a lot of big matches he could have lost, but look at the ones he should have won.

We already have a whole thread dedicated to this topic. Why bring it up again? The first one you mentioned wasn't very profound. He was trailing the whole match, which is incidentally the reason I think people go too far when they call that match the greatest match of all time.

I couldn't be bothered to read that topic.

Trailing the whole match? He led 4-1 in the second.

Greatest match of all time because the arrogant fucker lost.

There is something which is very strong with you but which I am not allowed to mention or I will get banned again. You know what I'm talking about though

You can talk, your love for Berdych is worse.

Re: Does Federer hold the record for the most profound wins?

RG 2009: five-setters against Haas and JMDP, huge pressure on him after Nadal lost

TMC 2003: Win against Agassi coming from MP down I think

Berdych from 2 sets down at the AO 2009, Tipsarevic on fire at AO 2008, coming from two sets down against Falla in W 2010, winning Wimbly 2012 after struggling in a lot of matches

After Nadal beat Monfils at Doha, before AO 2014

Somewhere out there, there is a homeless person who once took betting advice from GSMnadal

Re: Does Federer hold the record for the most profound wins?

What the hell is a "profound win" or a "profound loss"?

He's had more amazing wins than I can remember.

The only match he struggled with in Wimbledon 2012 was Benneteau. Didn't struggle vs Malisse as much as his back just acted up.

Federer fan, writer, tennis player.
